KOGYOKU (6) sets the standard after fighting out a nose second to Coney Island at Hanshin and she has built steadily through this campaign. The first try around 1600m is the obvious new element, but her recent form is the sharpest in the race. CHAMPAGNE LIFE (2) resumes as a consistent maiden with four placings from nine starts and three placings from six attempts at this distance, so she has the right profile to be competitive fresh. DANON BRANDNEW (3) brings the best course-and-distance grounding, having won at this track and posting one win and two placings from five runs at the trip. ROUGE LYRIC (13) has to rebound from two plain 1800m runs, yet her 1600m record reads well and she gets back to her more suitable distance second-up.
