Uruguay vs Spain Prediction

25/06/2026|SB Staff|World Cup 2026 Tips & Predictions
uruguay vs spain

Uruguay have left themselves with a huge challenge that they would have hoped to avoid when the fixtures for Group H were announced.

After consecutive draws against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde in games most would have felt the South Americans would have won, they’ve got to try and get a positive result against Spain if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the knockouts alive.

Spain produced a strong performance in their game against Saudi Arabia after the shock of a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, with Luis de la Fuente’s side running riot.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were shocked themselves against the small nation, but they cannot afford to leave their qualification hopes at the hands of someone else…

To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Quick Picks

Our pick: Spain to win

Value bet: BTTS to hit

Long shot: Spain win 3-1

Uruguay vs Spain prediction

With so much on the line and all in their own hands, Uruguay are going to have to put in the performance of their lives in their upcoming match against Spain.

While a draw could be enough, a win is going to be the only way they can assure themselves of playing in the Round of 32 given the state of the group standings.

However, Spain are huge pre-match favourites to win, and it’s hard not to believe that they will. As the Uruguay vs Spain betting odds page shows, the Europeans are clear favourites here. Although they were held to a goalless draw against Cape Verde, they managed to put four past Saudi Arabia, with three inside the opening 25 minutes.

The Europeans are one of the tournament’s favourites to win the competition, and they certainly appeared to find their rhythm in their most recent outing.

Uruguay, meanwhile, shot themselves in the foot in each of their two games so far, with defensive errors being the main catalyst for the goals they’ve conceded. If they have the same issues against Spain, they’ll be punished.

We think this game will likely end in a win for Spain

If you're keen to back this one across a few markets, it's worth brushing up on how a multi bet works first, and the lads have plenty more in the World Cup betting hub to get you sorted before kickoff.

Uruguay vs Spain score prediction

Spain haven’t even secured their place in the next stage of the competition at this moment, which adds to the likelihood of them getting a result. Given that both sides need to win this one, we think there could be goals in some volume…

And with Spain winning four of the last five meetings between the pair, with the only blip being a 2-2 way back in 1995, the Europeans will enter this match in confident fashion.

The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market is the safer bet due to the defensive capabilities that Spain boast, having yet to concede a goal at this tournament. However, it’s not like they’ve faced too many challenging moments.

Uruguay can get on the ball and create problems, which is why we think value in the ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ market instead.

We think the BTTS also has a good chance of hitting, thus having value worth exploring. The South Americans have shown some clever play going forward and often have several shots on goal in their games.

Spain might restrict them a little more than others, but Uruguay have also been a threat going forward, even when they’ve struggled to score.

We think the correct score of Spain 3-1 has value in this one…

Player markets to watch

Mikel Oyarzabal has value as an anytime goalscorer in this game, having scored twice against Saudi Arabia. He is a prolific forward for De La Fuente’s side, having scored in four of his last five competitive matches for his nation.

The Spanish captain also provided an assist in the Saudi game, leaving him with value to score or assist. Another individual who scored was Lamine Yamal. He’ll offer value in this market, too, as he’ll get forward and likely prove an attacking threat in Uruguay’s box.

Uruguay’s Maxi Araujo value in the ‘To Score or Assist’ market. He scored and assisted in the Cape Verde draw, while he also scored against Saudi Arabia. His value is longer than it potentially should be for this game.
