Erling Haaland versus Kylian Mbappé – Norway versus France. Kind of gets you licking your lips, right?
The clash between these two European nations will determine which of them will top Group I, after both have secured two wins from two.
They both know they have qualified for the Round of 32, but both will want to finish top of their Group, as they’ll then face a third-placed side. The team that finishes second will face the second-place team in Group E, which is likely to be Ivory Coast.
To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!
How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.
For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!
Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.
Quick Picks
Our pick: France to win
Value bet: Haaland/Mbappé to score 2+ goals
Long shot: Over 3.5 Goals
Norway vs France prediction
France are one of the pre-tournament favourites, so it’s no real surprise that they have been made the pre-match favourites to win this match. As our Norway vs France betting odds page shows, the last time they lost in this tournament, including qualifiers, was in the 2022 final, which went to a penalty shootout against Argentina.
While a victory for either would see them take on a third-placed team, the team that finishes second wouldn’t necessarily be in a bad position themselves.
This could take the sting out of the game a little, with a draw offering some value. Both coaches could consider using the game as a chance to give their squads a run-out and provide some rest to key players ahead of the matches ahead.
However, given the tournament's status and what wins can do heading into the knockout phase in terms of momentum and confidence, we think there’ll be a team that comes away with three points. In our view, we think it’s likely that France will be the winners…
Norway vs France score prediction
The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ and the BTTS hitting certainly appear to have value in this game, especially given the calibre of attacking players on the pitch. Erling Haaland is likely to lead the line for Norway; Kylian Mbappé is likely to do the same for France.
Both individuals have already been in red-hot form in this tournament, with both knocking in four goals each in their first two games, one behind Lionel Messi.
The ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ market may offer better value, though. Norway have managed to hit over 4.5 goals in each of their two games so far, scoring four and three in consecutive matches.
France achieved it in their opener against Senegal (3-1) but failed to hit it against Iraq (3-0); still, the weather delay at half-time may have impacted them slightly and took them off the pace a little.
That said, with France scoring three in both, the ‘Over’ in the ‘Away Team Over/Under 2.5’ market has value.
Although a long shot, our correct score prediction is France 3-2…
Player markets to watch
Again, the focus in the player markets will be on Haaland and Mbappé. Both have already scored four goals each in this tournament, with back-to-back braces.
Both offer significant value to have more than one goal in this game in the ‘To Score 2 or More Goals’ market. Given that both men are the main point of attack for both, there’s value in either to score 2+ goals.
Ousmane Dembele got on the scoresheet against Iraq and ended a significant goal drought when playing for his country in a major tournament. That could be the goal that the Ballon d’Or winner needed to replicate what he managed to achieve for his club (PSG) this season.
We’ve backed him to do it both games already with success, and this is another where we think Michael Olise has value in the ‘To Score or Assist’ market. The Bayern Munich man scored twice against Iraq, highlighting how well he has integrated with the team and the relationships he has, particularly with Mbappé.
