England remain top of Group L despite being held to a goalless draw against Ghana in their last game, but Thomas Tuchel will want to ensure his side deliver a performance akin to the one they produced against Croatia when they take on Panama.
Panama have failed to earn a point from the Group so far, although they’ve proven themselves to be difficult to break down, with Ghana and Croatia needing late goals to record 1-0 wins against them.
To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!
How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.
For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!
Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.
Quick Picks
Our pick: England to win
Value bet: Over 3.5 Goals
Long shot: Ollie Watkins to score
Panama vs England prediction
Given the quality that they have within their squad, it’s no real surprise that England are the heavy pre-match favourites in the moneyline odds. As our Panama vs England betting odds page shows, Panama’s odds are extremely long, despite having made life difficult for the other two nations so far.
Nonetheless, the calibre of player that the Three Lions have should make it extremely tough for them, even if they are better suited to the weather conditions as a CONCACAF nation.
England’s performance against Croatia will be the one they look to replicate. Having been held by Ghana in their last outing despite being dominant in almost every stat, they’ll likely come out with the same attitude and perhaps with more of a bite.
We think it’s likely that England win this game…
If you fancy backing England across a few games, it's worth getting your head around what a multi bet is first, and you can size up the rest of the markets over at the World Cup betting hub before lining up your tip.
Panama vs England score prediction
Although Panama have been rigid in their approach, England will likely pose a different type of threat that they have yet to experience throughout this tournament.
England failed to score against Ghana, but showed that they can put the ball in the back of the net with ease against arguably the best side in the group.
With qualification still not assured, although very likely, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Three Lions found a route through to goal with regularity and peppered it.
The ‘Over 3.5 goals’ market offers better value than the ‘Over 2.5’, especially as England will want to put their best foot forward.
They will need to be clinical, but knowing top spot in the group remains available after their draw with Ghana (who will take on Croatia), Tuchel’s side could look to replicate their 2018 performance against Panama, where they won 6-1.
That said, we think there’s some long shot value in the BTTS in this one. Panama are likely to be on the back foot the majority of the time, but they may be able to break on the counter on the odd occasion.
They cannot qualify, so Thomas Christiansen’s side may just want to go out there with pride and look to create a tournament story for themselves.
Our prediction, though, is England win 3-0…
Player markets to watch
Harry Kane will be wanting to put things right in this game after missing chances against Ghana, and his quality is something that Panama’s defence are going to struggle to deal with.
He’s got better value as the first goalscorer market rather than the anytime goalscorer.
But Kane offers better value in the ‘To Score 2+ Goals’ market, as he will be the main man in attack, given the fact that England have yet to qualify.
But we think Tuchel is going to want to get some minutes into his other strikers’ legs too, and make sure Kane is fresh for the last 32. As a result, don’t discount a goal from either Ollie Watkins or Ivan Toney here. Both will represent good value in the goalscorer markets.
Anthony Gordon didn’t impress against Ghana, so maybe this is also a chance to look at markets surrounding Marcus Rashford.
