Senegal vs Iraq Prediction

Senegal vs Iraq

Both sides are already out of automatic qualification contention after losing their opening two Group I matches, but there's still plenty on the line here.

The best third-placed teams across all groups still advance, so Senegal and Iraq will be scrapping for goal difference and pride at BMO Field in Toronto.

Senegal have been competitive without getting the results. They troubled France in the first half before going down 3-1, then pushed Norway all the way in a 3-2 loss where Ismaila Sarr bagged a brace. Three goals scored across two matches against elite opposition is a decent return.

Iraq's story is less flattering. They shipped four against Norway and were blanked 3-0 by France, managing just a single goal across 180 minutes of World Cup football.

This is their first appearance at the tournament since 1986, and the step up in quality has been brutal.

To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Senegal vs Iraq prediction

Senegal to win and over 2.5 goals is the play here.

Senegal are clearly the better footballing side, and as the Senegal vs Iraq odds suggest, their attacking trio of Sarr, Sadio Mane and Nicolas Jackson has shown it can create and convert against top-shelf defences.

Against an Iraq backline that has leaked seven goals in two matches, the opportunities should come thick and fast.

Iraq have struggled for firepower throughout the group stage. Ali Jasim has been managing a knock picked up in the Norway match, while Mohanad Ali Al-Shammari missed the France game with a training injury — both are targeting a return for this fixture but may not be fully fit.

Aymen Hussein has been the lone bright spot up front, but one goal in two matches tells you everything about their struggles in the final third.

The goals angle stacks up nicely alongside a Senegal win. Iraq's defence has been a revolving door, and Senegal's attack has been the one area where they have genuinely performed well this tournament.

Even Senegal's defence, shaky as it has been against the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, should hold up better against Iraq's limited forward line. Expect Senegal to control this one and push for the big winning margin they need to give themselves any chance of sneaking through as a best third-placed side.

If you fancy stringing this one in with a few other results, it's worth getting your head around how a multi bet works first, and the World Cup betting hub is handy for checking the wider markets before you commit.

Player markets to watch

Our pick: Ismaila Sarr anytime goalscorer.

Sarr has two goals already this World Cup, both coming in the Norway match where he looked sharp cutting inside from the wing. He has been Senegal's most dangerous attacker and will fancy his chances against an Iraq central defence that has been carved open repeatedly. He should start and will be central to everything Senegal create going forward.

Our pick: Nicolas Jackson anytime goalscorer.

The Chelsea-owned striker, who spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Bayern Munich, has been involved without finding the net so far, but this is a significant drop in opposition quality compared to France and Norway.

Iraq's high defensive line has been exploited by runners in behind all tournament, which plays right into Jackson's game. Shorter odds than some of the other options, but he looks overdue.

Our pick: Sadio Mane to register an assist.

At 34 and playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, Mane is no longer the explosive force he once was, but his football brain remains elite. He has been dropping deeper to create for Senegal's runners.

With Sarr and Jackson making darting runs beyond Iraq's backline, Mane looks well placed to pick them out.
