Morocco vs Canada Prediction - World Cup Round of 16

03/07/2026|SB Staff|World Cup 2026 Tips & Predictions
round of 16 Morocco vs Canada

Canada will be aiming to keep their dream tournament alive when they take on Morocco in their Round of 16 clash.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, with kick-off at 03:00 AEST.

Canada secured their place in the Round of 16 for the first time ever after a last-minute goal against South Africa gave them a 1-0 victory. Morocco left it even later, edging a tense and nervy penalty shootout over the Netherlands to see them through, after a last-minute goal tied the game in regulation time.

To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Quick Picks

Our pick: Morocco to win

Value bet: Over 2.5 Goals

Long shot: Morocco to win 2-1

Canada vs Morocco prediction

Morocco have become one of those teams that many are taking more seriously as the tournament progresses.

They’ve been extremely difficult to beat over the last year or so, having not lost a game in regulation time since August 2025.

Mohamed Ouahbi has only been in charge since March, but he has carried on the legacy that has been left before him, using the quality squad and depth he has available to its maximum potential.

And the African side are beginning to like this tournament, having reached the semi-finals and finishing fourth in 2022.

Furthermore, when they have been named as favourites, they’ve won each of their last 11 matches in this tournament (including qualifiers).

They’ve been made big favourites to get past Canada in this one, and we think this is likely.

Jesse Marsch’s side will make it a challenging encounter, though, and will look to use the advantage of being one of the co-hosts.

But they’ll be in Houston and could find things difficult against a team that has shown spirited fightback already in this tournament.

In addition, this will be Canada’s fifth meeting with Morocco in all competitions, going winless across each of the previous four (D1 L3).

With this one being a knockout showdown, keep an eye on the latest World Cup betting odds as the bracket firms up, and if you fancy some trivia on the all-time leading goalscorers, it's a decent yarn for the pub.

Canada vs Morocco score prediction

At the 2022 edition of the tournament, Morocco defeated Canada 2-1 in the Group Stage, and we think this scoreline could be replicated.

Canada has lost each of its last two tournament matches as an underdog by a scoreline of 2-1.

The 'Over 2.5 Goals' market has hit in each of Canada's last three tournament matches as an underdog, while Morocco have faced just 8.3 shots per game and 0.8 xGA per game

The CAF nation has significantly tightened up this year, being historically better than ever.

Still, there’s value in the BTTS hitting. The 'Both Teams to Score' market has hit in five of Morocco's last six tournament matches in North, Central America and the Caribbean.

It may take something special from Canada, but they’ve got the quality to take advantage if they get in some positive attacking spaces.

Since this is a knockout clash between two sides still to be decided, it's worth brushing up on how the various World Cup betting markets work and getting your head around what a multi bet actually is before you lock anything in.

Player markets to watch

Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi has created three or more chances in four of his last five matches in this competition, meaning he offers good value in the ‘To Score or Assist’ market.

Only one other defender this century has created more chances than him, highlighting his importance and goal threat to the Atlas Lions.

Ismael Saibari has scored a goal in three of Morocco's last four matches, as well as the winning penalty in the shootout against the Netherlands.

After securing a move to Bayern Munich, he’ll have value to keep that run going and score anytime against Canada.

Canada’s Stephen Eustaquio has created seven chances from set plays in this tournament, having also scored the last-minute winner against South Africa.

He leads all Canadian players for successful passes (194) and passes played into the box (44), meaning he has value in the ‘To Score or Assist’ market.
