The NRL Grand Final is almost upon us. That means for one individual, the opportunity to write themselves into Rugby League folklore is also approaching.

One of, if not arguably the most prestigious individual awards in Rugby League, the Clive Churchill Medal is awarded to the best on ground in the Grand Final.

Naturally, such a significant award, in such a significant game, generates a significant amount of interest amongst punters.

For anyone attempting to pick the 2025 Clive Churchill Medal winner, we’re here to help. We’ve hit the stats lab, assessed the odds and looked at previous winners, to try and take some of the guess work out of it.

For starters, no winger, centre or bench player has ever won the Clive Churchill Medal, only three players have ever won the award twice and no one has ever claimed a hat-trick here.

Also, only four men have taken home the Churchill despite their side going down in the big dance.

On Sunday there will be only one former winner of this award on the field and they’re currently paying over double digits to become just the fourth player in NRL history to win two Churchills.

Who is that player? Who are the favourites? What about the sleeper picks? Is there a smokeys about to come out of nowhere and drop a Grand Final masterclass? Let’s find out!

For all the Clive Churchill Medal favourites, sleepers, odds and analysis, check out our Clive Churchill Medal 2025 Predictions below.

Who Won the Clive Churchill Medal Last Year?

Liam Martin

Barnstorming Panthers second rower Liam Martin was voted the best on ground in last year’s NRL Grand Final.

In addition to his usual tireless performance on the edge, Martin also crossed for a valuable try, helping his side to their fourth straight premiership and himself to the Clive Churchill Medal.

He became the first forward to be voted best on ground in a Grand Final since Luke Lewis in 2016, but he won’t get the opportunity to go back-to-back after the Panthers were sent packing in the Prelims by Brisbane.

Clive Churchill Medal 2025 Prediction – The Favourites

Cameron Munster

At the time of writing there is currently a three-way tie in terms of favouritism for the 2025 Clive Churchill Medal.

It’s no surprise that Melbourne Storm stand-off Cameron Munster is one of the three at the top of the betting tree for the 2025 Churchill.

The ultimate big game player, Munster consistently delivers when it matters the most for club, state and country.

Despite playing in four Grand Finals and winning two of them, Munster has not yet won the Clive Churchill Medal, is that about to change this Sunday? The odds certainly think so.

Reece Walsh

The next joint favourite for the 2025 Clive Churchill Medal is Brisbane livewire Reece Walsh.

Easily the most in-form player heading into the Grand Final, Reece Lightning has dropped masterclass after masterclass to drag his side to the big dance.

His electric vein of form ironically started in round 27 against the Storm and hasn’t stopped. Scoring them, setting them up and now kicking 40/20s at will, if the Broncos can get home on Sunday, Walsh will have every chance of having the Churchill placed around his neck.

Harry Grant

Rounding out the trio of equal favourites for the 2025 Clive Churchill Medal is Melbourne, Queensland and Australian dummy-half, Harry Grant.

A key cog in the Melbourne machine, it’s no surprise their form dipped significantly while he was suspended.

Since he’s been back, they haven’t lost and if they are to get their hands on the Provan-Summons trophy on Sunday, he will surely be a big reason why.

Jahrome Hughes

No stranger to taking home massive individual awards, reigning Dally M medallist Jahrome Hughes is being heavily backed to add the Clive Churchill Medal to his personal collection.

He may have only just returned from a fractured forearm, but he didn’t miss a beat last week. Hughes was in everything for the Storm as they saw off the Sharks to advance to the big dance, scoring a try, making a line break and breaking eight tackles.

Another performance like that in another Storm win and Hughes will be right in contention for the 2025 Clive Churchill Medal.

Payne Haas

The first and only non-spine player among the Churchill favourites is Broncos’ enforcer Payne Haas.

The premier forward in the NRL for the last five years, Haas has completely redefined the position of prop.

He possesses an unparalleled work rate both with and without the ball and if Brisbane are to break their premiership drought on Sunday, he will surely be a big reason why.

Clive Churchill Medal 2025 Prediction – Under the Radar Options

Adam Reynolds

The man whose golden boot booked Brisbane their ticket to the Grand Final, Adam Reynolds presents an excellent under the radar option for the 2025 Clive Churchill Medal.

Yes, he’s a little old, a little under done, a little injury-prone and well, just a little bit little, but as a starting halfback, capable of match winning moments like we saw last Sunday, Reynolds is more than capable of taking home the Churchill.

Ryan Papenhuyzen

The only man on this list who has already won a Churchill, Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen will be looking to join Bradley Clyde, Nathan Cleary and the man he succeeded, former Storm No.1 Billy Slater, as a dual winner of this award.

Despite playing in a key position for the favourites and having already won this medal, Papenhuyzen is paying well over double digits at the time of writing, making him our number one value pick for this market.

Ben Hunt

Ben Hunt winning the Clive Churchill Medal a decade removed from his infamous Grand Final blunder against the Cowboys? We’ll take one large headline writer’s dream, please.

Hunt looks set to start at six on Grand Final day and a match winning moment from the man they call Dozer could deliver the premiership, redemption and the Churchill all at once.

Clive Churchill Medal 2025 Odds
