Collingwood Magpies vs Carlton Blues Prediction - Round 19 2026

16/07/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

The main course of Round 19 gets served up at the MCG this Saturday as Collingwood host Carlton in front of a packed house.

With Carlton being somewhat of a basket-case in recent years, it feels like a while since this rivalry actually had serious consequence behind it.

Even when they played back in Round 6, it was a close one, cracker of a match, but in the context of the season not that important as Carlton had already bombed five leads in a row by that point.

But this match is vital for both clubs, with the Pies sitting at 8th and the Blues at 12th on the ladder after 19 rounds.

A win could see Carlton move into wildcard qualifying territory while simultaneously dashing the Pies hopes of a top six berth.

But the Pies, much like Austin Powers, have rediscovered their mojo, rattling off four straight wins, including their four-point escape act against North Melbourne last Friday.

Nick Daicos was at the centre of it again, doing what Nick Daicos does. Distributing Sherrins, covering ground and getting re-posted on the AFL’s Instagram. Seriously though check out the Brownlow Odds, at this point they may as well give it to him now!

Carlton and Josh Fraser got a cold hard reality check at the hands (and feet) of Hawthorn, who put 103 points on the Blues in miserable conditions at the MCG.

It was Carlton's first loss since Fraser took the reins and it's dropped them outside the top ten on percentage heading into an old-fashioned grudge match.

The recent history of this grudge match runs deep – look away Blues fans, the Magpies have won thirteen of the last fifteen meetings between these clubs. Ouch.

If history is anything to go by, Carlton’s finals pipe dream may end up being just that.

Collingwood Magpies vs Carlton Blues Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

This one has finals-race written all over it, and we wouldn't be shocked to see it again come Wildcard Weekend.

Daicos, Jordan De Goey and Scott Pendlebury lead the Collingwood engine room, with new tagging option Ed Allan giving Craig McRae something he hasn't had in a while, a genuine shutdown weapon to throw at an opposition gun. On the other side, Patrick Cripps, Sam Walsh and Jagga Smith will look to win it in the middle, with Harry McKay and Nic Newman marshalling things at either end for the Blues.

Neither line-up screams star power at a glance, but eighty thousand-plus at the 'G chasing points and bragging rights will make plenty of noise regardless.

Collingwood's half-back rebound has been finding another gear of late, and that's precisely the avenue they'll look to exploit if Carlton get loose with the footy. For the visitors, winning first use at the stoppages and playing a genuine front-half game will be non-negotiable — and expect a heavy dose of attention on Daicos all night.

We like Collingwood's class in the big moments, but not by a mile.

Head-to-head prediction: Carlton Blues by three points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

With Jamie Elliott done for the season after rupturing his ACL, Collingwood have needed another small forward to make hay and Dan McStay has been doing exactly that.

McStay was at it again last week against North Melbourne, reeling in a strong contested mark before slotting the set shot with ease.

Expect him to want an early say against the old enemy, planting an early flag that the Pies are here for business.

Betting tip: Dan McStay.

Most Disposals Prediction

This is the closest thing to a lock on the entire card. Nick Daicos leads the competition in disposals this season and has been in the conversation for the Brownlow Medal all year, a favourite with punters for good reason.

He's had his ups and downs across recent weeks, but the trend line points one way and few players find as much of the footy against Carlton as Daicos does.

Barring something unusual like an act of God, injury or Carlton dominating the contest, Daicos tops the count again.

Betting tip: Nick Daicos.
