LORD PENMAN arrived from New Zealand with a good reputation, but nothing really went right in his first local campaign. His kick-off at 1200m was excellent, but a missed run saw him go straight to 1600m off five weeks with 59kg and he was badly held up. Then it was the Epsom where he closed late, beaten under four lengths despite having The Thumps. Back to 1300m for the Silver Eagle where he beat all but Linebacker and then drew 15 in the Golden Eagle and had no chance. Two good trials under the belt and should go close. The hardest to gun down likely to be MAGNATEAR and THUNDERLIPS, a fit, frontrunning pair easy to make a case for. WAR ETERNAL has a good third-up record, but has never won on dry.
