Pliskova vs Swiatek

Iga Swiatek will continue in her attempt to retain her 2025 Wimbledon title on Thursday, July 2, when she takes on Karolina Pliskova in the second round. The time of the match is yet to be determined.

Swiatek managed to overcome the challenge of American Taylor Townsend in what turned out to be a hard-fought victory, needing three sets to win 2-1. She won the first before dropping the second.

Pliskova is a former Wimbledon finalist (2021) and advanced to the second round with a straight-sets win over fellow Czech Tereza Valentová, 6-3, 6-4.

Betting Preview

Swiatek has dominated their previous meetings, winning all four.

Boasting a 7-3 record over her last 10 matches, the #3 WTA-ranked Polish star doesn’t appear to have too much trouble when playing against opponents listed in the top #100. Pliskova is ranked #73, but against top 100 players in the last 52 weeks, holds a 41-17 record (70.7%).

Overall, she is 51-17 over the last 52 weeks, winning 75% of her contests, which includes a record of 8-1 on grass. Grass isn’t her strongest surface to play on, but she is 26-9 (74.3%) throughout her career.

Pliskova is 2-2 (50%) against players in the top #10 over the last year, with a 43.3% win record in her career against players in the same bracket. She is 21-11 over the last 52 weeks, including 6-2 on grass, while being 57-31 (64.8%) on this surface across her WTA career.

Interestingly, she has three WTA Tour-level grass titles, whereas Swiatek has one, although that was last year’s Wimbledon major.

Betting Markets to Watch

The moneyline odds have Swiatek as a big pre-match favourite to win this contest, with her odds relatively short. Indeed, Iga Swiatek has won each of her last 25 Grand Slam second-round matches. This leaves value potentially to be found in many of the prop markets being offered.

One such market worth exploring is for her to win the 1st set. Iga Swiatek has won the first set in each of her last 21 WTA Second Round matches against opponents 30 or older. She likes to make a fast start in her matches, and could do the same against the Czech.

Additional value may be in the handicap, with the line set at -4.5. Iga Swiatek has covered the game handicap in each of her last six main draw matches against right-handed opponents at Wimbledon.
