Matildas vs Chinese Taipei Preview

06/12/2024|SB Staff|Soccer Tips & Predictions

After playing out an entertaining friendly at AAMI Park on Thursday night, in front of nearly 27,000 fans the Matildas and Chinese Taipei are gearing up to go again this Saturday.

The two nations will face off at GMHBA Stadium, in what will be the Matildas final game of 2024.

There were plenty of fresh faces on the field for Australia last start as they won 3-1, with squad rotation the flavour of the night.

Will we see more new faces on the scene this weekend and more importantly, can they record another convincing win? Or is there an upset for the ages brewing in Geelong? Let’s find out!

For the latest analysis, team news, odds and more ahead of what is sure to be another entertaining hit out, check out our Matildas vs Chinese Taipei preview below.

Matildas vs Chinese Taipei Preview

There were a number of fringe players who got decent minutes last start at AAMI Park and duly impressed.

Young midfielder Daniela Galic and debutant Natasha Prior both got a start and Prior in particular took it with both hands, scoring her first ever goal in Green and Gold.

Another young defender in Sharn Freier also put her name up in lights after making the run on side.

She too found the back on the net for the first time and collected player of the match honours in the process.

We expect all three of these young guns to feature heavily again in this game and the Matildas look to end 2024 on a high.

Matildas vs Chinese Taipei Betting Tips & Predictions

Head-to-Head (H2H)

To say the Matildas are favourites in the H2H market might be a slight under exaggeration.

There is a real David vs Goliath narrative to this one. The Matildas have now faced Chinese Taipei on six occasions already and have won all six.

Chinese Taipei did finally score a goal against the Matildas last game. However, that means the aggregate score across their six encounters now reads 25-1 in favour of Australia. Yikes. It’s safe to say Chinese Taipei have their work cut out for them here if they want to record their first ever victory against the Green and Gold.

Betting tip: Matildas.

First Goal

After coming off the bench to score her maiden Matildas goal, Melbourne City forward Bryleeh Henry could be in line to start this game.

If so, she presents great value to open the scoring. The two opening goals last time out were scored by defenders Natasha Prior and Sharn Freier, so if you’re looking for value, you could do a lot worse than backing either of those talented full backs.

Betting tip: Bryleeh Henry.

Correct Score

Despite never being in any real danger, Matildas coach Tom Sermanni will no doubt be disappointed that his side conceded their first ever goal to Chinese Taipei.

The Tillies had managed to keep them scoreless in every one of their previous five encounters, before Thursday night.

This leads us to believe that defence will be the order of the day and he will focus more on keeping a clean sheet than raining in the goals at risk of being hit on the counter.

Betting tip: 2-0 Matildas.

How to Watch the Matildas vs Chinese Taipei

You can watch the upcoming Matildas’ game against Chinese Taipei on Channel Ten and their subsidiaries, 10 Play and 10 Bold.

You can also stream the Matildas vs Chinese Taipei on subscription service Paramount+.

Matildas vs Chinese Taipei Time and Details

Kick-off: 7:30pm AEDT.

Date: Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Location: GMHBA Stadium.
