Born on 4 February 1991 in Melbourne, Victoria, Leckie built his reputation on explosive pace, direct running, versatility and relentless work rate.

Although primarily used as a winger, he has also operated as a forward, attacking midfielder and wing-back throughout his career.

After breaking through in Australia with Adelaide United, he spent a decade in Germany across Borussia Mönchengladbach, FSV Frankfurt, Ingolstadt and Hertha BSC before returning home to join Melbourne City in 2021.

Internationally, Leckie has been a key figure for Australia for well over a decade, representing the Socceroos at multiple World Cups and helping the national team win the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Leckie began his senior career with Bulleen Lions in Victoria before earning a move to Adelaide United in 2009.

At Adelaide, he quickly emerged as one of the country’s most exciting young players, combining pace, power and fearless attacking play. He also made an impact in the AFC Champions League, announcing himself on the continental stage.

In 2011, Leckie moved to Germany, where he embarked on a long and successful European career.

He first joined Borussia Mönchengladbach, gaining Bundesliga experience before a loan move to FSV Frankfurt.

His time at Frankfurt proved important in his development, and he made the move permanent in 2013. From there, he joined FC Ingolstadt in 2014, helping the club win promotion to the Bundesliga and establishing himself as a reliable performer in German football.

In 2017, Leckie signed for Hertha BSC, where he made an immediate impact by scoring twice on his Bundesliga debut. Across four seasons in Berlin, he added top-flight and European experience before returning to Australia in 2021 with Melbourne City.

Since joining Melbourne City, Leckie has been a major contributor both on and off the pitch.

He helped City win A-League premierships and played a central role in the club’s 2025 championship triumph, earning the Joe Marston Medal in the grand final. His experience, versatility and leadership have made him one of the most influential senior figures in the squad.
