NRL round 19 is full of side quests it seems. First, before any of the regular round 19 games start, we have the State of Origin decider to look forward to on Wednesday night.

Then there is also the matter of Sportsbet’s Try July, which kicked off last week and will be running until the end of the month. For every single try celebration across the NRL, NRLW, and State of Origin Game III Sportsbet will donate $5,000 to two incredible causes: the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation (ASCF) and the Player Hardship Fund.

Away from these stellar side quests, there’s some seriously scintillating matchups on the cards this weekend, including Western Sydney and M1 derbies.

After a mixed bag last time out, let’s see if we can find some diamonds in the roughies with our NRL round 19 tips.

Cronulla Sharks vs The Dolphins Prediction

Friday, July 11, 8:00pm AEST – Shark Park

Opening up proceedings in round 19 are the Cronulla Sharks and The Dolphins, who are set to meet at Shark Park on Friday night.

Both of these sides are coming off byes, with the Dolphins more at risk of an Origin hangover than their hosts.

The Phins will be hoping talisman Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow makes it through Game III (and the following celebrations should QLD win) unscathed.

His last contribution in a Dolphins jersey before heading to Maroons camp was to score four tries in a rout of South Sydney.

The Sharks will certainly be hoping he doesn’t feature here, as they need all the help they can get at the moment.

They’ve gone from top four candidates to 10th on the ladder after a slew of less than desirable results.

The equation here is simple for us. If the Hammer plays, we’ll be taking the Phins.

Head-to-head prediction: The Dolphins.

Betting tip: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow anytime try scorer.

Newcastle Knights vs Melbourne Storm Prediction

Saturday, July 12, 3:00pm AEST – McDonald Jones Stadium

The Knights get a tough welcome back to life in the NRL after their week off, with the Melbourne Storm waiting at the door in round 19.

The Storm survived a serious scare sans their Origin stars on the road to the Cowboys last week and will be hoping to welcome as many of them back this week as possible.

Again, that all depends on how the dust settles post Origin III. Their opponents the Knights have saved a little face in recent weeks, oscillating between winning and losing over the past six weeks for a 3-3 record that sees them up to 13th.

Still, the Storm are favourites for it all, for a reason. We’re tipping them to see this one out in style.

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Storm.

Betting tip: Nick Meaney first try scorer.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Sydney Roosters Prediction

Saturday, July 12, 5:30pm AEST – Jubilee Stadium

Two sides who are flirting with finals footy, but will this be the week one of them makes their intentions known.

Sitting 9th and 11th respectively, both the Dragons and the Roosters have the top eight in their sights, so a win here is beyond crucial.

Both sides were on the wrong end of narrow defeats last start, however the calibre of opposition couldn’t have been much different.

The Dragons pushed the table-topping Raiders all the way down in Canberra, falling just four points short of an ambush for the ages.

The Roosters on the other hand, were pipped by the lowly Tigers, as Latu, Sione and Samuela Fainu became the first three brothers to all score in the same game.

Those two results have drastically changed the complexion of this encounter and seeing as they are at home, we’re actually going to hunt a bit of value and take the Dragons.

Head-to-head prediction: St George Illawarra Dragons.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Canterbury Bulldogs Prediction

Saturday, July 12, 7:35pm AEST – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Are the Doggies done? That might be a little dramatic, but they are certainly beginning to unravel.

After looking unstoppable for the first half of the season, the cracks have begun to come to the fore at Canterbury.

They followed up their two-point loss to Penrith by blowing an 18-point half-time lead to Brisbane last week to put their minor premiership plans somewhat in jeopardy.

Obviously, Origin will play a huge role in deciding this one as there are few teams as dependent on their rep stars as these two.

While North Queensland pushed Melbourne all the way last week, we’re not ready to give up on the Doggies. However, lose this one though and the alarm bells will certainly be sounding at Belmore.

Head-to-head prediction: Canterbury Bulldogs.

Betting tip: Marcelo Montoya first try scorer.

New Zealand Warriors vs Wests Tigers Prediction

Sunday, July 13, 2:00pm AEST – Go Media Stadium

The Warriors will try and regroup from the devastating blow of losing star half Luke Metcalf to a season-ending ACL injury, when they welcome the Tigers across the ditch.

While the loss of Metcalf is a massive spanner in the works for New Zealand and any premiership aspirations they may have had in 2025, they still sit comfortably in fourth.

At home against a Tigers team who only picked up their sixth win of the season last week and who face the very real possibility of being with Jarome Luai for this one, we’re tipping the Warriors to rally for luckless Luke.

Head-to-head prediction: New Zealand Warriors.

Betting tip: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad anytime try scorer.

Parramatta Eels vs Penrith Panthers Prediction

Sunday, July 13, 4:05pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

Dead last just eight rounds ago, now sixth, Penrith seem to have one message for the rest of the competition – “you should have finished us off when you had the chance.”

Next up is a good old Battle of the West against traditional rivals Parra, whose season is all but over, with 10 games still to play.

Obviously, Penrith have a plethora of players away on Origin duty, but being a Sunday game it will be far enough removed from Wednesday’s battle royale, that injuries permitting, they should all be ready to back up.

Seeking win number five on the bounce, we’re picking Penrith to find exactly what they’re looking for here against the lowly Eels.

Head-to-head prediction: Penrith Panthers.

Betting tip: Blaze Talagi anytime try scorer.

Gold Coast Titans vs Brisbane Broncos Predictions

Sunday, July 13, 6:15pm AEST – Robina Stadium

The final game of NRL round 19 will see the red-hot Broncos take the quick commute down the M1 to face local rivals the Titans.

We’re officially calling it – Brisbane are back! That’s four on the trot now, with last week’s comeback on the road against the Bulldogs the biggest indication yet that Michael Maguire’s men could still win this thing.

Their injury and suspension problems are nearly in the rearview mirror, with Ben Hunt the only missing piece of the puzzle left. His return is imminent and whether it’s this week or not, they should still have far too much quality for the team currently running dead last.

Head-to-head prediction: Brisbane Broncos.

Betting tip: Jesse Arthars first try scorer.

South Sydney Rabbitohs, Canberra Raiders, Manly Sea Eagles – BYE

The Rabbitohs get some respite from their savage streak of losses with a bye this week. While Canberra and Manly get a week off to celebrate the spoils of their respective last start wins.
