Pistons vs Hawks Prediction

Two of the East's best will face each other on Thursday, March 26, at 10:00 AEDT when the Detroit Pistons host the Atlanta Hawks.

The two teams have been in good form recently, with the Hawks having turned things around after a troubling start. However, the Pistons have been solid all year, leading the Conference for much of the NBA regular season.

Quick Picks

Our pick: Pistons to win

Value bet: Hawks in the handicap

Long shot: Duren to have 20+ points

Betting Preview

The Pistons have been exceptional at home all year. Prior to their game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, they were 26-8 when playing in Detroit. They also entered that game against LA with a 6-4 record over their last 10 games, including three straight.

In terms of conference play, they've been just as unstoppable. Teams from the East have struggled hugely, as the Pistons boast a record of 34-11. Indeed, it's something that the Hawks will have to contend with.

Still, Atlanta have been running through the NBA's best recently, putting several wins on the board. They've turned things around dramatically at a time when it matters most, as they entered their game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday, 9-1 over their last 10. Their defeat came recently in that spell, but they returned to winning ways immediately.

The Hawks are 19-16 when on the road, suggesting they don't mind travelling. Against other teams in the East, they are 22-21 for the year. This near .500 record is largely due to the poor start that they had and the recent turnaround that has been experienced by the team. If you're new to how to bet on the NBA, understanding team form and conference records is essential.

Betting Markets to Watch

While the Hawks have improved significantly in recent weeks and months, their record against the Pistons is dreadful. In the last five meetings they've faced each other, Detroit are 4-1. This involves four straight wins for the Pistons.

The most recent game was in December, when the Pistons won 142-115. It was at the same venue as Thursday's game; a place where Atlanta lost 99-98 but also won 132-130 in the same five-game span.

Given the closeness of the scores, we think there's value in the handicap for Atlanta to cover the spread. Detroit are likely to be favourites, but the Hawks have been running riot over the league and show they can keep games tight.

With Cunningham out and Stewart questionable, Jalen Duren may need to produce big. He has consistently put up 20+ points recently, and we think there's value in another 20+ game.

Our Prediction

Despite being banged up with injuries, we think the Detroit Pistons will be likely winners in this game. Both teams are in strong positions for the NBA playoffs betting race, making this a crucial Eastern Conference clash.

We like the value that is likely being offered in the handicap market for the Hawks, as they've shown they can keep games tight in Detroit, despite the blowout last time. They're much improved and have been unstoppable recently. For more insights, check out our NBA tips and predictions.
