It’s the TMO decision that still has the rugby world talking.

After the first Test went the way of the Lions with little fanfare in a lacklustre game, the MCG delivered in spades. Ninety thousand fans packed the stands, tries galore, a brilliant display of the game they play in heaven… and, of course, a TMO decision that decided the match.

The controversial clean-out by Jac Morgan on Carlo Tizzano — which went unpunished — led to the match-winning try by Hugo Keenan in the 80th minute, helping the British and Irish Lions snatch victory at the death from the Wallabies at the MCG. The win gives the Lions an unassailable 2–0 lead in the series.

While Lions fans erupted in celebration, debate over the non-penalty has been fierce and deeply divided, with opinions split across fans, pundits, and former players alike.

Now, the Lions’ eyes are firmly fixed on the final Test in Sydney — a chance to close out an unbeaten tour Down Under and complete their first undefeated Test series since 1904.

The Wallabies, meanwhile, are again licking their wounds — desperately unlucky not to be heading to a decider in Sydney. While the series is lost, there’s still plenty to play for in Game Three, especially after proving they can produce world-class rugby when the chips are down.

Can the Wallabies lift themselves from the heartbreak in Melbourne for one final effort against the might of the Lions and their army of fans? Or will the best of the Northern Hemisphere be celebrating a clean sweep all the way home?

For the latest team news, predictions, betting tips, and in-depth analysis of the biggest rugby tour in the world, check out our Wallabies vs Lions Game 3 preview below.

Wallabies vs British & Irish Lions Squads

Wallabies Squad

Forwards: Allan Alaalatoa, Angus Bell, Josh Canham, Nick Champion De Crespigny, Matt Faessler, Nick Frost, Langi Gleeson, Tom Hooper, Fraser McReight, Zane Nonggor, Billy Pollard, David Porecki, Tom Robertson, Will Skelton, James Slipper, Carlo Tizzano, Taniela Tupou, Rob Valetini, Jeremy Williams, Harry Wilson

Backs Filipo Daugunu, Ben Donaldson, Jake Gordon, Len Ikitau, Max Jorgensen, Andrew Kellaway, Tom Lynagh, Tate McDermott, James O’Connor, Hunter Paisami, Dylan Pietsch, Harry Potter, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Corey Toole, Nic White, Tom Wright

British & Irish Lions Squad

Forwards: Finlay Bealham (Ireland), Tadhg Berine (Ireland), Ollie Chessum (England), Jack Conan (Ireland), Luke Cowan-Dickie (England), Scott Cummings (Scotland), Tom Curry (England), Ben Earl (England), Tadhg Furlong (Ireland), Ellis Genge (England), Maro Itoje (England), Ronan Kelleher (Ireland), Joe McCarthy (Ireland), Jac Morgan (Wales), Henry Pollock (Ireland), Andrew Porter (Ireland), James Ryan (Ireland), Pierre Schoeman (Scotland), Dan Sheehan (Ireland), Will Stuart (England), Josh van der Filer (Ireland)

Backs: Bundee Aki (England), Owen Farrell (England), Tommy Freeman (England), Jamison Gibson-Park (Ireland), Mack Hansen (Ireland), Huw Jones (Scotland), Blair Kinghorn (Scotland), James Lowe (Ireland), Alex Mitchell (England), Garry Ringrose (Ireland), Finn Russell (Scotland), Fin Smith (England), Marcus Smith (England), Sione Tuipulotu (Scotland), Duhan van der Merwe (Scotland), Ben White (Scotland)

Wallabies vs British & Irish Lions Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head

Accor Stadium hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the men in gold.
The Wallabies have lost their past five Test matches at the Sydney venue, with their last win coming back in 2015 against the All Blacks.

The Wallabies and Lions last clashed at the Olympic Stadium in 2013, where the Lions cruised to a dominant 41–16 victory to seal the series decider.

This time, the Wallabies will be forced into at least two changes due to injuries to prop Allan Alaalatoa and winger Harry Potter — reshaping both the forward pack and the backline.

Scrumhalf Tate McDermott impressed in a 60-minute stint on the wing after replacing Potter, but the Wallabies clearly missed his spark and fresh legs in the latter stages when the game tightened up.

While Australia were dominant in the first half, the momentum shifted the moment Will Skelton and Rob Valetini were taken off. Expect to see both forwards get more than just 40 minutes of game time this time around — if they back up.

To reinforce the power game that clearly troubled the Lions, the door is open for a Taniela Tupou redemption arc if he’s called on to replace Alaalatoa at tighthead. There could also be a debut on the cards for electric winger Corey Toole, who has been with the squad all series.

Andy Farrell has some selection decisions to make as well. With the series already secured, does he give opportunities to squad members in a rotated lineup? Or does he stick ruthlessly with the core group that’s got the job done in the first two Tests?

He was keen to pick Garry Ringrose in the midfield before the Irishman withdrew with concussion symptoms. Ringrose is set to miss the third Test as well, which could open the door for Aussie-born Lions Mack Hansen and Sione Tuipulotu, both of whom have returned to training following injury.

As much as we’d love to back the hosts in Sydney, the visitors simply have too much speed, class, and rugby nous for this still-developing Wallabies side.

Betting tip: British & Irish Lions

First Try Scorer

He’s the Lion that hasn’t been able to stop scoring.. and the favourite for the player of the series award in our view too!

Tom Curry has won many plaudits for his efforts over the first two Tests, with not just his big tackles and scrummaging, but his ability to cross the try line in each Test so far has added a string to his bow.

We’re looking at him to go over first here and complete the set of a try in each Test.

Betting tip: Tom Curry

Over/Under Total Match Points

Melbourne was the scoring fest we didn’t expect, but we were so glad we got it.

Both sides have showcased their ability to score, with the Lions nudging 30 points in both games and the Wallabies also showing off their scoring prowess in Melbourne.

If they (The Wallabies) have any petrol tickets left, look for this one to clear the line of total match points.

Betting tip: OVER

How to watch Wallabies vs British & Irish Lions Game 3

Every game of the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia will be shown live and ad-break free on Stan Sport.

Every Test match between the Lions and the Wallabies will be shown on Channel Nine.

Wallabies vs British & Irish Lions Match Details

Date: Saturday, August 2nd, 2025

Kickoff: 8:00pm AEST

Location: Accor Stadium, Sydney

How to watch: Channel 9, Stan Sport
