What Does Tri Bet Mean?
A Tri Bet is a form of margin or line betting. A Tri Bet essentially splits the outcome of a line bet into three outcomes instead of two.
The biggest distinction between a Tri Bet and other forms of margin betting is that one of the three outcomes allows you to pick either side to win the match by a preset margin.
That means when placing a Tri Bet you have three options. Team A by the allotted margin, Team B by the same margin or either team by another preset margin.
There are now multiple different Tri Bet margins available across both NRL and AFL matches. This allows you to pick different margins for your Tri Bets based on how evenly matched you feel the two teams are.
As mentioned, Tri Bets are most popular across both AFL and NRL, so let’s take an example of a Tri Bet for each code, shall we?
NRL Tri Bet
For this example of a Rugby League or NRL Tri Bet let’s look at a match between the Melbourne Storm and the Brisbane Broncos.
NRL Tri Bet Example
The standard Tri Bet for this game has the following three outcomes:
- Melbourne Storm -6.5
- Either team by 6 or less.
- Brisbane Broncos -6.5
The odds for each of these outcomes differ based on how likely they are deemed to happen. In this example Melbourne -6.5 is at the shortest price, while Brisbane -6.5 is at the longest odds and either team by 6 or less is somewhere in the middle.
As previously mentioned, there are additional Tri Bet margins to choose from, such as: -2.5, -4.5, -8.5, -10.5, -12.5, simply choose the one you want.

AFL Tri Bet
Now let's take a look at an AFL Tri Bet. Let’s take a match between the Adelaide Crows and the Melbourne Demons for this example.
AFL Tri Bet Example
- Adelaide Crows -15.5
- Either team by 15 or less
- Melbourne -15.5
As you can see the margins in an AFL Tri Bet differ to those in an NRL due to the higher scoring nature of the game.
This also means that the additional Tri Bet margins for AFL are different to the NRL. Here are some of them: -19.5, -24.5, -39.5.

NBL & NBA Tri Bet
But what about an NBL or NBA Tri Bet? Well Basketball Tri Bets work similar to the other sports but once again differ due to the finer details of this sport. Let’s take a look at a Golden State Warriors v Milwaukee Bucks matchup example.
NBA Tri Bet Example
- Milwaukee Bucks -7.5
- Either team by 7 or less
- Golden State Warriors -7.5
Due to wide ranging scores found across NBA and basketball as a whole these margins can change dramatically for each game. If you want to learn more about NBA wagers then read our How To Bet on NBA Games guide.
How to Place a Tri Bet
Step 1: Choose the NRL or AFL match you wish to place a Tri Bet on.
