Tour De France 2025 Stage 16 Betting Predictions: Event Enters Final Week As Tour Takes Shape

The 2025 Tour de France begins to take even more shape as it heads into the final week of the event.

Stage 16 will take place across Tuesday and Wednesday (AEST) after a rest day, with a sprint to the finish from this point on. It will not feature Remco Evenepoel, as the Olympic and World ITT champion abandoned during Stage 14, suffering from extreme fatigue after a strong opening week and a stage win in the time trial.

His withdrawal, as he was sitting third on GC, has shifted podium expectations and weakened the breakaway and GC dynamic for Stage 16. The battle for the Yellow Jersey narrows mainly to Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard.

Tour De France 2025 Stage 16 Guide: All You Need To Know

Stage 15 saw Tim Wellens (UAE) claim victory at Carcassonne after a 45km solo move, adding to UAE Team Emirates’ dominant Tour. Pogacar, despite a minor mass fall earlier in the stage, retained the yellow jersey with a commanding 4:13 lead over Jonas Vingegaard.

He’ll be in contention to win the upcoming stage after a day’s rest, as it features a number of climbs that will suit him (and Vingegaard). It begins in Montpellier and follows a nearly flat trajectory for the first 150km, before riders face the legendary “Giant of Provence”, also known as Mont Ventoux. This is a 15.7 km climb with an average gradient of 8.8%, culminating at an altitude of 1,910 m.

It’s a stage that can define the results of the tour, with significant time gaps potentially being formed in the race for the Yellow Jersey. With only a handful of high-mountain opportunities left, expect aggressive moves, especially if weather (notoriously windy and hot) adds difficulty.

However, the flat start could allow non-GC climbers a head start. GC contenders will likely wait until the steepest sections (last 5km) for decisive attacks.

Tour De France Stage 16 2025: Betting Predictions

Stage 16 is another stage that is suited to the pure climbers on the tour, which is why the likes of Pogačar and Vingegaard are once again among the favourites to boost their position for General Classification honours and take the Yellow Jersey.

Pogačar is the current race leader and a huge favourite, with this stage another opportunity for him to showcase his abilities and make another legendary climb look easy. However, Vingegaard won’t just let him, as he has shown he can match his performances. The Dane is strong in the third week of the tour, and long climbs have become a speciality of his.

With Remco Evenepoel withdrawing, João Almeida and Enric Mas will be two to keep an eye on, especially as they could look to exploit tactical windows in Stage 16 if the two main contenders go after each other.
