Gold Coast Pro 2025 Preview

29/04/2025|SB Staff|Misc Tips & Predictions

The Aussie section of the World Surf League is in full swing at the moment. After another epic installment of the Bells Beach Pro, the WSL is off to the Glitter Strip for the 2025 edition of the Gold Coast Pro.

With a host of elite Aussie wave riders across both the men’s and women brackets, it’s a bit of a golden age for Australian surfing at the moment.

That means there have never been eyes on the Aussie tour stops on the WSL such as the Gold Coast Pro. So, if you weren’t already a convert, maybe it’s time to crack out your wetsuit and get swept up in the wave of hype that is surrounding surfing Down Under right now.

For the latest analysis, forecast and predictions for the 2025 Gold Coast Pro, check out our comprehensive preview below.

Gold Coast Pro 2025 Forecast and Preview

This year’s Gold Coast Pro is already set to be a unique experience. Due to damage done to the Snapper Rocks sand banks by Cyclone Alfred, this storied event has been shifted to Burleigh Heads for this year's edition.

Whilst Burleigh is the primary event location, the organisers will also be keeping their eyes closely set on Greenmount, Kirra and Snapper Rocks as alternative locations, pending conditions.

Will this affect the favourites chances? Short answer, not really. Burleigh is another world-class, right-hand point break on its day and should provide a similar canvas for our tour surfers

We are expecting a nice uptick in swell towards the back end of this week, reaching around that 1.5-1.8m range, suggesting there will be at least chest-high waves for the first few days of this event.

However, this is set to be backed by some moderately strong southerly winds, which will reduce the chance of clean waves, making it more likely that it will be crumbly, tricky conditions.

With the event window looking uncertain, there's a solid chance that we'll be kicking things off this weekend. So, watch this space.

Gold Coast Pro 2025 Men’s Predictions

Italo Ferreira

The Brazilian world number one is well poised to bounce back from his disappointing early round exit at Bells to wildcard Xavier Huxtable

Given his consistency this year and affinity for smaller, more choppy waves; he's a solid pick for this event.

Ferreira also has the potential to perform well if the waves do increase beyond head height thanks to his arsenal of aerial variations, his rail game and his ability to find the tube.

Oh yeah, he won this event back in 2019, never rule out a champion.

Yago Dora

Given the forecast, we expect Yagon Dora to be a prominent threat at this event.

He has historically struggled at the Gold Coast Pro; however, this is referencing performances from 2018 and 2019 - he is a completely different surfer now.

With possibly the highest variety of aerial tricks on tour and a strong blend of tube-riding and on-rail ability, he has multiple avenues to perform here, regardless of conditions.

Ethan Ewing

Aussie phenom Ethan Ewing is riding the coattails of an impressive showing at Bells Beach, which saw him reach the semi-finals.

He dropped an 18+ point heat at Bells which had fans speculating that it may have been the best surfing they've seen at the break since the likes of Andy, Joel and Mick.

This should tell you everything you need to know about Ewing and his capabilities. He is also well and truly due for an event win, could this be it?

His silky smooth rail game should suit this wave regardless of conditions and he has really shown his ability over the last season to adjust his surfing to smaller waves too.

Gold Coast Pro 2025 Men’s Predicted Winner: Ethan Ewing.

Gold Coast Pro 2025 Women’s Predictions

Caitlin Simmers

The American is currently tied with Gabriela Bryan in first place on the tour rankings after showing remarkable consistency through the first half of this season.

She is currently revolutionising women's surfing with her blend of rail-game, aerial threats and no-fear tube riding. She shouldn't have a problem adjusting to whatever conditions are provided for this event.

She will also be eager to bounce back after a disappointing 9th-place finish at Bells last week.

Caroline Marks

Caroline Marks is currently sitting in 6th on the tour rankings, after a mixed bag of showings. With a win at Portugal, followed by two 9th place showings in El Salvador and Bells.

She is statistically one of the highest-performing female surfers at right-hand point-breaks over the last few years and we expect this experience and form to shine through here. It's also important to note that she also won this event back in 2019.

Erin Brooks

Canadian prodigy Erin Brooks has underperformed by critic’s standards so far during her first season on tour.

She is currently sitting in 10th in the rankings, with back-to-back 9th place finishes at El Salvador and Bells Beach.

Snapper Rocks was a breakout event for her last year in the qualifying series and we expect her to carry confidence into this event off the back of that.

She has shown her ability to mix it up with the very best on this type of wave and there's a solid chance that this is her bounce-back event to help revive her chances of securing a finals berth.

Gold Coast Pro 2025 Women’s Predicted Winner: Caitlin Simmers.

Gold Coast Pro 2025 Date and Details

Dates: May 3-13, 2025.

Location: Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Prizemoney: The winner of the men’s and women’s events will receive $20,000 each.
