EuroVolley 2026 France vs Italy Prediction and Betting Tips

Two unbeaten sides, top of Pool D, and honestly not much between them on paper right now. France and Italy both roll into Gothenburg 9-0 in sets through three matches.

Qualification’s already in the bag for both, so this one’s really about seeding, momentum, and bragging rights.

Reigning World champions Italy against a France side that’s quietly been just as clinical.

  • Competition: 2026 CEV Women’s EuroVolley, Pool D
  • Venue: Scandinavium, Gothenburg, Sweden
  • Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2026
  • Start Time: 12:00am AEST (Thursday)

France vs Italy Form and Head to Head

Here’s where the story gets less romantic than you might hope if you’re a France backer.

At EuroVolley specifically, Italy have won the last six meetings between these two. France are yet to really put a dent in that pattern at a Euros, so the head-to-head lines up with the global pecking order rather than pushing against it.

Both teams are absolutely humming right now. Italy have swept Croatia, Montenegro and co-hosts Sweden, the last of those a clinical 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-14) in front of a raucous 6,801-strong crowd.

France have been every bit as ruthless, brushing aside Slovakia, Croatia and Montenegro 3-0 apiece without dropping a set. When two sides this hot collide, form does tend to blur but the historical closeness (or in this case, lack of it) is worth keeping in mind.

Egonu Headlines a Star-Studded Collision

Italy’s roster is, frankly, ridiculous. Coach Julio Velasco has his first-choice group in rhythm, led by Paola Egonu, the two-time VNL MVP and top scorer of the 2025-26 Italian league.

Setter Alessia Orro (the 2025 World Championship MVP) pulls the strings, with Anna Danesi and Myriam Sylla adding firepower and experience.

France counter under new coach Cesar Hernández González, whose side reached the World Championship quarterfinals for the first time in 2025, which is a genuine milestone for the program.

They’re missing captain and outside hitter Héléna Cazaute, who withdrew from the tournament with a back injury, leaving libero Amandine Giardino with the armband. That’s a real blow.

Even so, this is a squad that took inspiration from the French men’s back-to-back Olympic golds in Tokyo and Paris, and has quietly grown into a proper threat in its own right.

France vs Italy Betting Markets

The head-to-head market obviously points at Italy, and the H2H at EuroVolley probably tells you why. But the set betting and total sets lines are where things get more interesting.

For the latest France vs Italy odds and markets, check out our volley 2026 European Championship Women odds. Given both teams are unbeaten and 9-0 in sets, the total sets over line has appeal for anyone expecting a real contest, while France on the set handicap is a route for punters wary of backing outright against a team yet to be pushed.

France vs Italy Prediction: Our Pick

Italy look the side better equipped to win the tactical battle at the top of the pool.

They haven’t dropped a set through three matches, capped by that assured 3-0 dismantling of co-hosts Sweden, and they field reigning Olympic and World champions with Egonu, Orro and Danesi all in top form.

That championship spine, tested repeatedly on the biggest stages, is the difference-maker in a meeting of unbeaten sides.

France’s task, meanwhile, gets harder without Cazaute and they’ve also got to solve a matchup Italy have dominated at EuroVolley, with the Azzurre winning the last six meetings between them. So yes, expect France to push hard (they’ve been too good so far not to), but Italy’s ceiling should tell.
