Saturday Racing Tips – 16 May

Flemington Saturday Race Tips

Track rating Good 4 on Wednesday. Rail out 4m.

Foggy mornings and bright, sunny days on the radar. Some showers on Saturday.  Bet for a Good track, but watch for a downgrade.

Flemington Racecourse Track Overview

Flemington Racing Track … What's there to say about this hallowed turf? Home to some of the most important races in the country, including the iconic Melbourne Cup. Flemington is a spacious track with a long, sweeping home turn and a straight that gives all horses a chance. It’s famous for its 1200m straight track.

This week features the $300k LR Andrew Ramsden (2800m) for stayers seeking a guaranteed place in the 2026 Melbourne Cup field. Discover Flemington race tips at this historic racecourse, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 2 (12.30 pm AEST) 3YO Handicap (2000m)

Fitter, track and distance. The most recent time Different Gravy raced at Flemington, he came from near last to win the Batman Stakes (1800m) during the Melbourne Cup carnival. He will be fitter for recent racing and trials, and will relish the 2000m.

Racing Tip: Different Gravy

Race 3 (1.05 pm AEST) Fillies & Mares Handicap (1400m)

Ready to win, good last time. Lovelycut is a genuine Stakes quality filly. She was excellent over this course and trip at her most recent run when she hit the line hard. Two runs from a spell should have her at her peak. Luke Cartwright rides with a 1.5kg claim.

Racing Tip: Lovelycut

Race 4 (1.40 pm AEST) 3YO Handicap (1400m)

Budding star. We tipped Concord Connie to win at Flemington on Anzac Day and she did so with a brilliant performance, running slick time over this course. She looks to be every bit a Group 1 quality filly. She should win again.

Racing Tip: Concord Connie (best bet)

Race 5 (2.15 pm AEST) 3YO Handicap (1200m)

Hot stable, unlucky last time. The Charlotte Littlefield stable is running hot, and Yes Yoshi can keep the momentum going. Terrific first-up and Bendigo when he ran into dead ends late. He should get the clear air he needs down the straight.

Racing Tip: Yes Yoshi

Race 8 (4.10 pm AEST) Straight Six (1200m)

Track specialist. De Bergerac has had five starts down the famous Flemington straight six for two wins and two seconds. He likes to sit back and come on hard late out wide. Barrier nine should see him map to be in the finish.

Racing Tip: De Bergerac

Scone Saturday Race Tips

Track rating Soft 5 on Wednesday. Rail out 3m 1000m to 400m. The rest is true.

Low 20 degree weather throughout the week, with dust-settling showers. Expect a perfect track surface.

Scone Racecourse Track Overview

The Saturday stand-alone metropolitan meeting heads to the “home of the horse” at Scone, in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding district in the upper Hunter Valley. The spacious Scone track is one of best in the state, giving all horses a chance with its wide, sweeping turns and long straights.

This week features the $250k G3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) and five other Stakes races. Discover Scone race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 2 (11.40 am AEST) Class 4 Handicap (1600m)

Home track, down in class. Autumn King ran bravely when fifth in the G2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) after racing on the pace in heavy conditions. He’s trained at Scone and looks well placed in restricted grade.

Racing Tip: Autumn King

Race 7 (2.35 pm AEST) Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m)

Fitter. Peter Snowden’s Miss Freelove has had a soft jump out since her first-up sixth at Warwick Farm, when she got too far back. Her spring form at this level was excellent. Expect her to be in the finish at value odds.

Racing Tip: Miss Freelove

Race 8 (3.10 pm AEST) Ortensia Stakes (1100m)

First-up, trial form. Fire Star ran third in this race last year. Importantly, his first-up record is an excellent two wins and two seconds from five starts. He beat Hillier in a Canterbury trial on May 1. Bet each-way.

Racing Tip: Fire Star

Race 10 (5.30 pm AEST) Luskin Star Stakes (1300m)

Down in class, freshened. Linebacker’s past three runs have been in Group 1s, the most recent sixth behind Sheza Alibi in the Doncaster Mile. Nice trial win at Canterbury to have him ready for this easier assignment.

Racing Tip: Linebacker (best bet)

Doomben Saturday Race Tips

Track rated Heavy 8 on Thursday after overnight showers. Rail true.

The report is for warm, showery weather. The track should be in the high soft range, with wet trackers having an advantage.

Doomben Racecourse Track Overview

Doomben sits opposite the more spacious Eagle Farm. It can be detrimental to a horse’s chances to be trapped wide around this tight, turning track, where the rail is king. It is the home of the Doomben Cup and Doomben 10,000.

This week features the $1.5m G1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m), the $300k G2 Spirit Of Boom Classic (1200m) and the $250k G3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m). Discover Doomben race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 1 (11.48 am AEST) Class 6 Handicap (1350m)

Perfect draw, significant jockey. Capable galloper in the Bjorn Baker stable. He resumed with a solid win at Randwick (1200m) on Anzac Day when he raced on the speed. He has excellent form on slow tracks and gets James McDonald from barrier one.

Racing Tip: Midnight Dynamite

Race 3 (12.58 pm AEST) 3YO Plate (1350m)

Jockey and fitness. The last time James McDonald rode Hidden Achievement, the colt finished second behind Cool Archie in the G1 JJ Atkins Stakes. He was excellent when second first-up behind Skyhook at Hawkesbury.

Racing Tip: Hidden Achievement

Race 6 (2.43 pm AEST) Bright Shadow Stakes (1110m)

Ready to win. The lightly raced Nepo Baby is in great form. It took a good one in Plaintiff to beat her at Randwick and then she was game when second behind Beadman in the Gold Coast Guineas. Drawn to get the right run.

Racing Tip: Nepo Baby

Race 8 (4.02pm AEST) Doomben 10,000 (1200m)

Maps well. Grafterburners is one of the best sprinting 3YOs in the country. He’s a winner at Doomben and he’s got the right form to right in the finish from a good draw.

Racing Tip: Grafterburners (best bet)

Sportsbet Morphettville Parks Saturday Race Tips

Up to 15mm is predicted to fall on Friday and Saturday respectively. The track should  remain in the soft range, but could be downgraded to heavy.

Morphettville Parks Racecourse Track Overview

South Australia’s home of racing, Morphettville Racing Track, incorporates two tracks in the state capitals' southern suburbs. The Morphettville Parks course is set inside the main track, and can favour horses races on the pace.

Discover Morphettville race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 5 (1.57 am SA time) Benchmark 64 Handicap (1250m)

Good last run. Snallygaster is promising. Led throughout at Oakbank (1050m) and then beat all but the handy High On The Hill at Morphettville (1050m) two weeks ago. Has good speed. Hard to beat.

Racing Tip: Snallygaster

Race 7 (3.12 pm SA time) Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m)

Form line, likes track. Enuff Seduction goes well around the Parks track. Two runs back finished second behind Pure Bliss over this course. Far from disgraced last run in good company.

Racing Tip: Enuff Seduction (best bet)

Belmont Saturday Race Tips

Track rated Soft 5 on Wednesday. Rail true.

Return to weekly winter racing at Belmont. Showers Thursday and Friday. Track should be in the good/soft range.

Belmont Racecourse Track Overview

After summer and autumn racing at Ascot, Perth metropolitan racing moves to nearby Belmont for winter racing. The wide course proper allows for multiple rail positions and the sandy track profile that caters for the winter wet. Belmont is a tightish track of 1699m with a straight of 333m.

This week features the $200k G3 Belmont Sprint (1400m). Discover Belmont race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 2 (12.14 pm WA time) Rogan Josh Stakes (2100m)

Impressive last start. Rock In Wonder is promising. Led throughout for an easy win last week when we tipped him strongly. Up in grade and distance but he’s good enough.

Racing Tip: Rock In Wonder

Race 3 (1.16 pm WA time) Platinum Series Heat 1 (1200m)

Track winner, in form. Acorn looked good winning at Belmont (1000m) in March, and then twice placed behind Hezangelic at Ascot. Drawn to get the right run. William Pike rides.

Racing Tip: Acorn

Race 5 (2.34 pm WA time) 3YO Handicap (1400m)

No luck last time, distance suits. Ignore Ladies Pro’s defeat at Ascot (1400m) on Anzac Day. She did well to finish fourth behind Spellborn. William Pike sticks with her and the 1400m is perfect.

Racing Tip: Ladies Pro

Race 8 (4.15 pm WA time) Belmont Sprint (1400m)

Back to form. Smooth Chino is one of the most exciting sprinters in WA. Right back to his best when he won the Northam Stakes (1300m) last time.

Racing Tip: Smooth Chino (best bet)
