Saturday Racing Tips - 15 August

Caulfield Saturday Race Tips

Track rating Heavy 8 on Wednesday. Rail true.

Cool weather but with minimal showers from Thursday to Saturday. Track should improve to a mid-soft track.

Caulfield Racecourse Track Overview

The famous Caulfield racetrack has a 150-year history of providing outstanding racing in Victoria. Known as “The Heath” it is the home of the iconic Caulfield Cup.

This week features the $300k G2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m), the $200k G3 Vain Stakes (1100m, 3YO C&G) and the $200k G3 Quezette Stakes (1100m, 3YO F). Discover Caulfield race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 1 (12.25 pm AEST) Benchmark 74 Handicap (1100m)

Promising, good fresh. Savoyard resumes from a spell. He won on debut at Pakeham after a big finish, and then beat all but Plunger in the $250k Rising Stars Final (1400m) at the same track. He has been trialling with something in hand against smart company.

Racing Tip: Savoyard.

Race 5 (2.45 pm AEST) Vain Stakes (1100m)

Good fresh, class. Danny O’Brien’s Closer To Free hasn’t raced since finishing down the track in the Golden Slipper. Before that, he was narrowly beaten in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at this track. Beat the Slipper winner Guest House over this course and trip on debut.

Racing Tip: Closer To Free (best bet).

Race 6 (3.25 pm AEST) Quezette Stakes (1100m)

Trial form, good fresh. Natural Fling was impressive in two starts in her only campaign last season. Won by three lengths on debut over this course and trip, and then very good in a hot race at the Gold Coast. She has been trialling smartly at Flemington.

Racing Tip: Natural Fling.

Race 7 (4.00 pm AEST) PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m)

Loves this track and trip. Pinstriped rarely runs poorly over the Caulfield 1400m. He has won a G1 Memsie Stakes and has been runner-up in this race. Finally draws a good gate, and he should be in the finish at value odds. One unit the win, three the place

Racing Tip: Pinstriped.

Rosehill Saturday Race Tips

Track rating Soft 6 on Wednesday. Rail true.

Coolish weather with some light showers is predicted. Low range soft track expected.

Rosehill Racecourse Track Overview

The Western Sydney Rosehill Racing Track is another diamond in the rough. Owned and operated by the Australian Turf Club, it’s home to the coveted Golden Slipper Stakes, the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.

This week features the $200k LR The Rosebud (1100m). Discover Rosehill race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 1 (11.35 am AEST) Midway Handicap (1500m)

In form, likes this track. The Freedman father-son stable of Richard and Will have a knack of winning these Midway races. Attractiveness did it two weeks ago at Rosehill (1400m), and there’s no reason she can’t do it again.

Racing Tip: Attractiveness.

Race 2 (12.10 pm AEST) 3YO Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m)

Big win last time. Steel Will resumed at Wyong and thrashed his rivals by nearly seven lengths to break his maiden. His 2YO form was solid against Stakes horses. Drawn to get a gun run and 1300m is perfect.

Racing Tip: Steel Will.

Race 8 (3.45 pm AEST) The Rosebud (1100m)

Sharp trial. Blue Door resumes here after an impressive Randwick trial behind Gangsta Granny. At her only start, she beat The Next Episode in the G3 Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick (1100m). Drawn to get the gun run.

Racing Tip: Blue Door (best bet).

Race 10 (4.55 pm AEST) Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m)

Fitter, distance suits. Mr Verse is a promising horse, now trained by Dan Meagher. Good run first-up at Flemington over 1200m. He will be fitter, and 1400m will be more to his liking, as will this improving race surface. (Note: Also engaged in Race 4 at Caulfield).

Racing Tip: Mr Verse.

Doomben Saturday Race Tips

Track rated Soft 5 on Wednesday. Rail true.

Warm winter weather with minimal showers expected Wednesday to Saturday.  Expect the track to hold in the slow range; perhaps it will improve to a Good 4.

Doomben Racecourse Track Overview

Doomben sits opposite the more spacious Eagle Farm. It can be detrimental to a horse’s chances to be trapped wide around this tight, turning track, where the rail is king. It is the home of the Doomben Cup and Doomben 10,000.

Discover Doomben race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 4 (1.28 pm AEST) 3YO C&G  Class 3 Handicap (1350m)

Good last time, gear change. Lockyer finished off nicely for second behind Golden Cross at Eagle Farm (1400m) on July 25. Heavily backed that day. Barrier one and Emily Lang to ride is appealing. Also gets blinkers first time.

Racing Tip: Lockyer.

Race 7 (3.17 pm AEST) Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m)

Track lover, in form. Braveheart likes Doomben. Two wins and two seconds from five starts on the track. Handles all types of surfaces, ideally drawn to be in the finish.

Racing Tip: Braveheart.

Race 8 (3.53 pm AEST) Fillies & Mares Benchmark 78 Handicap (1200m)

Hot form, course and trip. Grinzinger Champ has raced brilliantly in her three starts in Queensland since coming from Melbourne. Her past two wins have been over this track and trip.

Racing Tip: Grinzinger Champ (best bet).

Morphettville Parks Saturday Race Tips

Track rated Heavy 10 on Wednesday. Rail out 6m 1000m-WP; out 3m the rest.

Cool weather with showers on the radar for Wednesday and Thursday. Track should be heavy or at best soft 7.

Morphettville Racecourse Track Overview

South Australia’s home of racing, Morphettville Racing Track, incorporates two tracks in the state capital's southern suburbs. The main “outside” course is spacious and fair. The Morphettville Parks course is set inside the main track, and can favour horses that race on the pace.

Discover Morphettville Parks race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 1 (1.49 pm SA time) Rating 72+ Handicap (1400m)

Consistent. Harsh won on heavy ground around the Parks circuit four runs back, and her form since has been excellent, including a last-start win on the main track.

Racing Tip: Harsh.

Race 3 (1.17 pm SA time) Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m)

Impressive last time in. Bassett Babe was very good in her first preparation, which included an easy win on this track and a Group 3 placing in Melbourne. Nice recent trial win shows she’s ready..

Racing Tip: Bassett Babe (best bet).

Race 5 (2.27 pm SA time) Benchmark 66 Handicap (1569m)

Ready to win, wet track. Extinguish is very consistent. Her two runs from a spell have been close seconds on heavy ground over 1200m and 1400m. Gets out to 1569m and drawn nicely. Bet win and place.

Racing Tip: Extinguish.

Belmont Saturday Race Tips

Track rated Soft 7 on Wednesday. Rail out 9m with a cutaway.

Frosty mornings and warm winter days are predicted. This track should be in the low soft range.

Belmont Racecourse Track Overview

After summer and autumn racing at Ascot, Perth metropolitan racing moves to nearby Belmont for winter racing. The wide course proper allows for multiple rail positions and the sandy track profile that caters for the winter wet. Belmont is a tightish track of 1699m with a straight of 333m.

This week features the $100k Blue Spec Stakes (1600m). Discover Belmont race tips, backed by Australia’s leading horse racing experts.

Race 3 (1.490 pm WA time) Rating 72+ Handicap (1400m)

Class, good fresh. The star filly of last season, Wonderfully Made, returns from a spell in a very winnable race.

Racing Tip: Wonderfully Made.

Race 6 (3.40 pm WA time) Rating 66+ (1650m)

Wet tracker. Three of In Confidence’s four wins have been on soft tracks, her past two on this track. The 1650m looks an ideal distance.

Racing Tip: In Confidence.

Race 7 (4.20 pm WA time) Blue Spec Stakes (1650m)

Distance, second-up, track. Sensessional will be better for his first-up fourth two weeks ago over 1400m. He has won six races over this distance, five times at Belmont and second-up four times.

Racing Tip: Sensessional (best bet).
