Goodwood 2025 Qatar Nassau Stakes Betting Predictions: Whirl is Edging The Betting

The premier racing meet on Day 3 at the Goodwood Festival on Ladies’ Day is the 2025 Qatar Nassau Stakes.

The race is scheduled to take place in the early hours of the morning, with horses going to post at 01:05 AEST.

It is the headline Grade 1 race of the day, and is open to elite fillies and mares aged three or older. It routinely pits the best classic generation three-year-olds against top-class older females and is always a highlight of the British summer flat-racing season.

2025 Qatar Nassau Stakes: Betting Preview

The 2025 Qatar Nassau Stakes is run over a distance of 1m2f (2,000 meters), with five horses currently scheduled to compete:

1. Running Lion - William Buick, John & Thady Gosden

2. See The Fire - Oisin Murphy, Andrew Balding

3. Bedtime Story - Jockey unknown, Aiden O’Brien

4. Cercene - Gary Carroll, Joseph Murphy

5. Whirl - Ryan Moore, Aiden O’Brien

‘Whirl’ is a 3yo filly from the Aidan O’Brien yard who comes in off a commanding win in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes. She was just beaten in the Oaks at Epsom (2nd) but bounced back in style last time. As a three-year-old, she receives a 9lb weight allowance from older rivals, which could be decisive.

Andrew Balding’s 4yo ‘See The Fire’ finished a close 2nd in this race last year and has since underlined her class with an easy win in the Middleton Stakes at York and a fine 3rd in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. She brings top older-middle-distance credentials, making her a strong candidate to win the 2025 Qatar Nassau Stakes.

The other three have been solid in Grade 1 races this season, which makes this five-horse race very interesting for betting opportunities and value.

2025 Goodwood Qatar Nassau Stakes: Betting Prediction

‘Whirl’ is the leading favourite in the 2025 Goodwood Qatar Nassau betting odds at Sportsbet, although ‘See The Fire’ is a close second. Indeed, ‘Whirl’ has the slight edge as three-year-olds have had a major recent advantage, especially those who bring strong Epsom Oaks/Pretty Polly or Classic-winning form.

In addition, the 9lb allowance for three-year-old fillies versus older mares can be a big advantage in this race, which makes it difficult to overlook the O’Brien-trained filly.

However, while her form is good, so is that of ‘See The Fire’. The four-year-old is extremely consistent and proven at this level over both course and distance. If ‘Whirl’ has a race in which she underperforms, then there is every possibility that the Balding-trained mare can use her experience and take control of the race if she gets off to a good start.

Cercene has a win in her last race, winning at Royal Ascot, so could be worth a punt with an each-way bet.
