Betting Markets to Watch
The Golden Eagle race is the feature race and main spectacle of the day, but the odds appear to suggest that this year’s race is a one-horse race.
Sheza Alibi is the big favourite. She has been drawn in barrier six, carries 55.5kg and has Luke Nolen aboard, which are all favourable factors.
That said, her preparation has been far from ideal. She is switching back to 1,500m after a run at 2,000m in Caulfield where she finished second by 0.1 length.
It was three weeks ago, and it was a demanding race. She’s had to travel back to Sydney, so questions about her readiness are valid.
This could mean there’s value in alternatives if you don’t think she’s quite right – and Autumn Boy is certainly an interesting option.
If you are weighing up win and place options like these for the first time, our guide on how to bet on horses breaks down how the two differ.
He has been drawn in barrier five and will be ridden by Zac Purton, putting him in a position to secure a more economical passage than the wider-drawn contenders.
His Epsom effort drew a positive assessment for the way he continued finding the line despite an imperfect run, and the return to 1,500m is viewed favourably.
Currently sandwiched between him and Sheza Alibi in the betting is Beiwacht, who is another legitimate contender if the latter isn’t at the races from the start.
Beiwacht opened his campaign with a three-length victory in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, before finishing third behind Apocalyptic and Skyhook in the 1,300m Silver Eagle.
He will start from barrier 10 on Saturday, and could find position, but whether he settles well enough to see out a strongly run 1,500m is the biggest question.
Our Prediction

Our prediction is for Sheza Alibi to be the likely winner, with Autumn Boy to place as our value pick.
The long shot is on Within The Law. Barrier three gives Rachel King the opportunity to save ground, while her late work in the Silver Eagle was positive, making it hard to discount her here. Unlikely to win, she has good value to place.
