After the entree for the UK summer of cricket wrapped up last week with the World Test Championship final being run and done, it's time for the main attraction with England hosting India.

It’s a massive five-Test series for England, as they kick start their preparations for a big Ashes tour at the end of the year. Well, as far as tune-ups go, there aren't many bigger tests than the might of India. The superpower of world cricket is back in the UK for the first time since their truncated 2021 tour, which was completed the following year following COVID biosecurity complications.

Beginning a new World Test Championship cycle, it’s the beginning of the most important year for England under the leadership of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes. This year, with a home India series and away Ashes to be won, will likely define their time in office for this England side.

For the tourists, it’s a brand-new era following the retirements of former captain Rohit Sharma and global superstar Virat Kohli. Under the new leadership of Shumban Gill, how will he fare in the hot seat in hostile territory?

For the best tips, analysis, stats, and preview of the highly anticipated series, read our England vs India Test series preview and predictions below.

England vs India Test Series Preview

Hope springs eternal for England and India at the start of a new Test series and new World Test Championship cycle.

Two of the “Big Three” Test nations in the world, facing off in a marquee series, are guaranteed to get many eyeballs from around the world on it.

England have already played one Test match this summer, with the batters filling their boots at the top of the order. A mammoth 170 from number three Ollie Pope in that game was enough to secure his place for the start of the series, staving off young tyro Jacob Bethell who had performed so well in the role in their previous Test matches last December.

One of England’s goals for this year is ensuring they manage their bowlers well enough so they have a battery of quick bowlers to take Down Under for the Ashes later this year to compete with Australia. How will they manage their injury prone speedsters and trump cards Mark Wood, Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue through the series?

This will be India’s first match since their series defeat on the tour to Australia. The retirements of all time greats in Rohit and Virat has meant that there are positions available in the top order.

New captain Shubman Gill will assume Kohli’s position at number four, but who will open the batting with young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal?

The bowling unit for India revolves around one man. Jasprit Bumrah. The superstar quickly was pushed to his limit in Australia and by the end of the series, the toll caught up with him. Will he have the support from the other Indian quicks?

Fellow superstar quick Mohammed Shami wasn’t included in the touring squad in a surprising non-selection despite being fit again. It leaves big shoes to fill for Mohammed Siraj who was on the 2021 tour and performed well, while Akash Deep made an impression in Australia and will be given the chance to perform again.

Swing bowler Arshdeep Singh has been included in the squad too and is a chance to make his Test debut in favourable conditions.

England vs India Test Squads

England squad: Ben Stokes (C), Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes

India squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav

England vs India Test Series Betting Tips & Predictions

Head-to-Head (H2H)

Since 1932, these two sides have been battling it out in Test cricket. This time, and from now on, they will battle it out for the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, named after two of the country's finest.

India won the last series in India 4-1, but they still trail overall in total bilateral series played.

The last time India won a series outright in England was back in 2007, claiming the four match series 2-0.

While India have won their share of Test matches in England since then, the last game they played in England was the game in 2022 when ‘Bazball’ really came to life.

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root hauled down a mammoth fourth innings target of 378 on that occasion, with a 250 plus run fourth wicket partnership getting them home.

With an Indian team in transition, we’re going to back the home side here. We’re tipping a close series though, but England have grown up and matured as a team and should be too good at home.

Betting tip: England 3 - India 1

Top Run Scorer

Since making his return to the Test setup in 2022, Ben Duckett has become one of England’s most bankable performers across formats.

Tasked with getting the team out of the blocks quickly, the always busy opener already has a century in his pocket this home season, and will be looking to continue his hot form form the previous few years.

Betting tip: Ben Duckett

Highest Wicket Taker

You’d be a brave man to look anywhere other than Jasprit Bumrah here.

Coming off a player of the series performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under with 32 wickets from five matches, Bumrah is the Indian ace in the pack. 23 wickets in his last and only visit to England too, He’s simply too good to ignore.

Betting tip: Jasprit Bumrah

Player of the Series

It’s hard to look past England’s batting bedrock in Joe Root.

On the cusp of breaking more records, Root, as he enters the final third of a glittering and record breaking career, he still has mountains to climb. He’s made big runs agains India before at home, he’s going to be critical if the Poms are going to get up here. He will be leading the way.

Betting tip: Joe Root

How to Watch England vs India Test Series

England vs India will be available to watch for Australian audiences live on Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports.
