The Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction has become one of the richest sports events in the world.

But have you ever caught yourself wondering, just how much are the top IPL contracts worth  across a few short months of play per year?

Well, worry no more. We have compiled a list of the top 20 IPL contract earners for the 2026 season.

There is some serious cash being thrown around too, with some of our Aussie fast bowlers and all rounders among the highest earners, and most expensive buys in competition history.

So, in the words of Jerry Maguire, show me (them, ahem) the money!

Check out our full list of the highest earning cricketers in the IPL.

NOTE: Currency converted to AUD

20. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians) - $2.43 million AUD

The man who built the Mumbai Indians dynasty is still on the books. Rohit Sharma captained MI to five IPL titles between 2013 and 2020 before handing the armband to Hardik Pandya ahead of the 2024 season, and Mumbai have kept him on at ₹16.30 crore.

At 39 he is the oldest player in this top 20, and he has now walked away from both Test and T20 international cricket. The pull shot, mercifully, has not gone anywhere.

He still opens the batting for Mumbai and remains one of the biggest drawcards in the competition. For a franchise that owes him five trophies, it is a very comfortable price to pay.

19. Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians) - $2.44 million AUD

India's premier all-rounder returns to the franchise where he first made his name, slotting straight back in as captain. A leader who can change a game with bat, ball, or sheer force of personality, Pandya's contract reflects just how rare genuine match-winning all-rounders are in the modern game.

18. Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians) - $2.44 million AUD

Mr. 360 himself. Suryakumar Yadav has redefined what is possible in T20 batting, and Mumbai Indians have backed him accordingly.

The ICC T20I Batter of the Year multiple times over, SKY brings a dimension to MI's middle order that simply cannot be replicated. When he gets going, bowlers across the world are left scratching their heads - and franchises are left scratching the cheque.

17. Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) - $2.46 million AUD

India's next great batter and the Gujarat Titans' captain. At just 26, Gill has already established himself as one of the most technically gifted players in world cricket, and Gujarat have backed him heavily to lead their charge in 2026. Elegant, effective, and with plenty of big seasons still ahead of him, there's more cash where this came from for Shubman Gill.

16. Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals) - $2.46 million AUD

Delhi Capitals' captain and one of the most complete cricketers in the Indian setup. Axar Patel's retention reflects his dual value as a match-winning left-arm spinner and a dangerous lower-order batter who can take a game away from the opposition at any stage.

Named as DC's skipper for 2026, there's an added leadership premium baked into that contract. A smart, reliable cricketer who quietly goes about his business and quietly earns a very tidy sum doing so.

The IPL's $2.68 Million Club

A quirk of the IPL's retention system means that ₹18 crore or $2.68 million AUD was the maximum price slab available to franchises looking to hold onto their star players ahead of the 2026 season. The result? Nine of the competition's biggest names all land on exactly the same figure.

Rather than splitting hairs, here they are - nine players, one price tag, just two off a pretty handy first XI.

15. Arshdeep Singh (Punjab Kings) - $2.68 million AUD

India's most dependable white-ball quick, and the man Punjab Kings were never going to let walk. Arshdeep Singh was retained at the maximum slab of ₹18 crore ahead of the 2026 season.

The left-armer is India's leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals and was part of the squad that won the 2024 T20 World Cup. He swings the new ball and he bowls at the death, which is two jobs most attacks need two bowlers to cover.

Left-arm quicks who can do both are the rarest commodity in the format. Punjab paid top dollar and will not be losing any sleep over it.

14. Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings) - $2.68 million AUD

CSK's captain and one of the most elegant batters in the IPL. Gaikwad carries the enormous responsibility of leading Chennai Super Kings into a new era, and his retention reflects the faith the franchise has placed in him.

A consistent run-scorer and natural leader, he fills the unenviable task of keeping the Yellow Army firing in what promises to be a challenging new chapter for one of the competition's most storied franchises.

13. Sanju Samson (Chennai Super Kings) - $2.68 million AUD

One of the most exciting wicketkeeper-batters in world cricket, Sanju Samson made a high-profile move to Chennai Super Kings via trade ahead of the 2026 season.

CSK pulled off a shrewd piece of business, acquiring an aggressive middle-order dasher who can also keep wickets; exactly the kind of dual-role player that commands premium prices in modern franchise cricket.

12. Yuzvendra Chahal (Punjab Kings) - $2.68 million AUD

You wouldn't expect it, but Yuzvendra is one of the elder statesmen of this top 20 at 36 years old. Bringing over 150 games of international experience into the equation, Chahal was retained by Punjab Kings heading into the 2026 season.

A crowd favourite due to his quiet nature off the field and his leg-spinning wizardry on it, Chahal's value to a young Punjab side cannot be overstated. Level with Rashid Khan as the most expensive spinner in the competition, and worth every rupee.

11. Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals) - $2.68 million AUD

The future of Indian batting and at 24 already one of the most feared openers in world cricket. Rajasthan Royals have locked Jaiswal in at a retention figure that looks like a bargain given his trajectory.

The left-hander has the technique and the temperament to be a dominant force in T20 cricket for the next decade, and the Royals know it. This is an investment in the future as much as the present.

10. Rashid Khan (Gujarat Titans) - $2.68 million AUD

The world's best T20 spinner. Afghanistan's greatest cricketing export has been retained by Gujarat Titans, and it is hard to argue with the investment. Rashid delivers mystery, control and downright mastery in a single package, as close to unplayable on his day as spin bowling gets.

9. Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians) - $2.68 million AUD

The best bowler in the world, full stop. Jasprit Bumrah's retention by Mumbai Indians puts him on the maximum slab available, level with Pat Cummins, Arshdeep Singh and Matheesha Pathirana as the best-paid bowlers in the competition. Given what he brings to the table, it seems almost a steal.

His unorthodox action, unerring yorker, and ability to swing the new ball or nail the death overs make him the most complete fast bowler in the game. MI built their entire retention strategy around him, and rightly so.

8. Matheesha Pathirana (Kolkata Knight Riders) - $2.68 million AUD

Sri Lanka's slingy superstar and KKR's second-biggest signing of the 2026 auction. Snapped up for the maximum receivable amount for an overseas player, Pathirana's slinging action and ability to hit the deck hard make him one of the most difficult bowlers to face in the format.

KKR went all-in on overseas pace in the 2026 auction, and Pathirana is the second piece of that fearsome puzzle.

7. Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad) - $2.68 million AUD

Australia's Test captain and one of the most complete fast bowlers on the planet. The combination of raw pace, reverse swing, and ice-cool temperament under pressure makes Cummins a massive drawcard in a competition where death-over bowling wins trophies.

A second Aussie in the upper echelons of the IPL pay bracket, and no one who has watched him bowl would argue with it.

The Top Six Richest IPL Players

6. Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants) - $3.13 million AUD

One of the most explosive batsmen in world cricket, the West Indian wicketkeeper-batter has been retained by Lucknow Super Giants at one of the competition's biggest contracts.

Pooran is the kind of player who can dismantle any bowling attack on any surface in a matter of overs. When he connects, it goes a very long way and LSG are banking on him providing the firepower to complement Rishabh Pant at the heart of their batting order.

5. Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) - $3.13 million AUD

The King. Virat Kohli's retention by Royal Challengers Bengaluru is worth noting for what it represents. RCB finally ended their 18-year wait for the IPL title in 2025, with Kohli their leading run-scorer across the campaign.

They then defended that title in 2026, beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with Kohli once again delivering when it mattered most - an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls to guide his side home and collect the Player of the Match award.

His retention is as much emotional as it is commercial. Where Kohli goes, fans follow.

4. Heinrich Klaasen (Sunrisers Hyderabad) - $3.43 million AUD

The most destructive middle-order batter in the IPL not named Pant or Pooran. Sunrisers Hyderabad have locked in their South African powerhouse at the fourth-highest contract in the competition.

Klaasen’s ability to take a game away from opposition teams in the space of a few overs makes him the ultimate match-winner in a franchise format that rewards explosive hitting.

At 35, he is in the absolute prime of his T20 career and SRH have paid accordingly.

3. Cameron Green (Kolkata Knight Riders) - $3.75 million AUD *

Australia's most exciting cricketing export and the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. Kolkata Knight Riders smashed the previous overseas record - held by his compatriot Mitchell Starc - to secure Cameron Green for ₹25.20 crore at the 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi.

It makes Green the third-most expensive player in IPL history overall, behind only Pant and Iyer. A genuine all-rounder who bats in the top order and bowls serious pace, Green offers KKR something money can't always buy; two world-class players in one.

2. Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings) - $3.99 million AUD

The captain who brought Punjab Kings back to the big stage. After leading PBKS to their first IPL final in years in 2025, falling agonisingly short against RCB, Iyer’s value only went one direction.

Punjab Kings have retained him at the second-highest contract in the competition, and it is hard to argue with the logic.

A modern batting superstar with the temperament, technique, and tactical nous of a future Indian great, Iyer is entering the peak years of his career. Punjab are betting big that the title comes next.

1. Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) - $4.02 million AUD

The most expensive player in IPL history, Rishabh Pant sits atop the 2026 contract list, retained by Lucknow Super Giants as their captain and batting anchor.

The swashbuckling left-handed wicketkeeper-batter is one of the most watchable cricketers on the planet, capable of turning a match on its head from the moment he walks to the crease.

A core member of India's 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy-winning squads, Pant's stock has never been higher. The only question is whether LSG can build a title-winning team around him - because at that price tag, the expectations are as enormous as the paycheque.

While we enjoy marvelling at how good it’d be to rake in millions for hitting a ball with a stick, just remember – in the wise words of Jesse J, it’s not about the money, money, money.
