Hawthorn Hawks vs Adelaide Crows Prediction - Round 14 2025
11/06/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
It’s a Friday night blockbuster in Tassie as Hawthorn hosts the Adelaide Crows for the first Friday night game in the Apple Isle since 2016.

When the fixture makers scheduled this match, they probably thought it would be one of those games that could a) provide Tasmania with some goodwill and a big event, and b) appease Adelaide by offering a Friday night game.

However, thanks to the Crows’ form this season, this matchup is shaping up to be an absolute cracker of a contest. Speaking of the Crows, they travel to Tasmania after making a statement that they are legitimate contenders this year.

They’re 9-4 and sitting comfortably in the top four after defeating the reigning premiers at home. It wasn’t pretty, and the Lions couldn’t hit the side of a barn door—but the way they ran them down with an onslaught at the start of the final quarter and then defended was very impressive. It was a strong indication of their credentials and their push towards their first finals series under Matthew Nicks.

The Hawks went some way to answering their critics after their mid-season stumble, bursting out of the blocks against the Dogs to secure a big and comfortable win, even with a few key players still missing. It was the victory they needed to renew their top-four hopes.

They now return to their Launceston fortress, where they have won seven games in a row since losing to the Crows at that venue just over two years ago.

While the Tassie locals will be rugging up to brave the chill in the stands, it’s going to be hot out on the oval!

On the selection front, Hawks skipper James Sicily will miss again, while the Hawks are hopeful that Nick Watson, Jack Scrimshaw, and James Worpel will meet the fitness requirements needed for the trip.

For the Crows, key defender Nick Murray is available again for the first time since Round 7 after overcoming a knee injury, but why would Matthew Nicks change his impressive defensive unit at the moment? It may mean a SANFL return for Murray.

The Crows will need to make at least one forced change with James Peatling suspended against the Lions, and Sid Draper is set to come in.

Hawthorn vs Adelaide Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Hawthorn has enjoyed this matchup in recent times, winning seven of the past 10 matches against the Crows.

The last time that Adelaide beat the Hawks was down in Launceston though, which would buoy the Crows that they can keep their hot streak in 2025 going.

According to Wheelo Ratings, The Crows have the second-best overall profile in the league, ranking second in the competition for having the ball in hand and moving it, and third without the ball and defending. Impressively, they rank second for points against in the competition.

The Hawk's defence has fallen off the perch as their season has stumbled, ranking 12th in the competition over the past five weeks. This opens the door for the Crows who are the number one ‘points for’ team in the competition.

It would be another really big endorsement for Matthew Nicks and what his team is doing this year, and really earn their tag as contenders. Having been the last team to beat Hawthorn down in Tassie, they’re not without a chance.

However, the home-away-from-home record is too compelling to go against the Hawks here.

First Goal Prediction

Key forward Mabior Chol is up and down when it comes to regularly impacting games of football, but he was as influential as he has ever been last week against the Dogs.

Already with a first goal in a game to his name this year, we’re looking for him to keep his strong form going with the first one here.

Most Disposals Prediction

The move back to halfback has done wonders for Rory Laird and the Crows. Back in his position, he’s won multiple All-Australian jackets in, he’s driving the Crows and getting their run going.

We’re backing him to collect the most of the ball this week against the Hawks.
