Geelong Cats vs Carlton Blues Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Here's the fly in the ointment for Cats fans: despite Carlton's struggles in recent seasons and Geelong's sustained run of success, it's the Blues who hold the superior head-to-head record between these two.

Carlton have won the past three meetings, including this season's Round 12 contest, a four-point win for the men in navy blue.

Walsh had 30 disposals and seven clearances, Cripps added 30 and a goal and Will Hayward's three majors were the difference in front of goal. Which makes his fitness a vital factor heading into Friday.

The Blues won the clearance count by 13 that day while dropping several other key metrics and that pattern matters. Carlton have shown they can go with Geelong around the football in contested possession and clearance, which is precisely why Max Holmes firming to return is such a lift for the Cats.

Cooper Lord's job on Kysaiah Pickett last week was superb and it feels inevitable he gets pointed at Bailey Smith here. Oisin Mullin, meanwhile, looks the likely candidate to go to Walsh after the Blues midfielder tore Melbourne apart.

Then there's Jeremy Cameron. Forty-seven career goals in 14 games against Carlton is a serious record and he kicked 4.3 in Round 12, with a recent run against the Blues reading four, four, three and five.

The only question is whether he gets enough time inside 50 on Friday night. Either way, we reckon the Blues train might just be about to run out of steam.

Shannon Neale has quietly gone about a 47-goal season while everyone else has been watching the household names.

That's the appeal here. With Carlton's defence occupied by Jeremy Cameron and the attention that comes with him, Neale should find himself in space inside 50 with genuine opportunity.

Geelong's first entries tend to go long and to a contest and Neale has been well placed all year to make it count.

Bailey Smith has been in absurd touch. 28, 28, 38, 34 and 40 across the past five weeks, that's not a purple patch, that's a standard.

We do expect Cooper Lord to be handed the job after what he produced against Pickett last week. But Bazlenka has spent his career being tagged and has generally found a way through it.

Even accounting for the attention, he's still the most likely player on the ground to top the count.
