DANJURO (2) set the pace and gave a good kick in the run home before finishing third and just over a length from the winner, following on from a nose defeat at Woodville. Jonathan Riddell will be back in the saddle, and he is the one to beat for us. KWANZA (6) fought on gamely for fourth at Te Rapa nearly 3 weeks ago in a field that was probably stronger than what he meets here. He is at his best on heavy ground, and he is nicely placed to take this out. DRESSE' PAR JOLI (9) did not fire second up at Hawera over 1600m last start, and she will relish getting out to a middle distance for the first time this prep. She is peaking at the right time, and she is ready now to put her best hoof forward. Each way value. GALLANT HERO (4) has yet to fire in 4 starts this prep, and he will cop a wide gate for this. We are still expecting a form reversal, so don't drop him yet. DANCIN IN THE DARK (3) has won his only start here over this trip, and he is another who is capable of rapid improvement.
