IT’S TIME! Yes, that’s right, we’re about to take on the impossible task and try and figure out who the greatest UFC fighter of all time is.

Fight fans and punters seem destined to debate this topic until the end of time, so don’t mind us as we throw more fuel on the fire.

What is the right metric to use to determine who is the greatest UFC fighter of all time? Most wins? Fewest losses? Most titles? Who they defeated? Everyone has their opinion.

Then when you take into account different eras and weight classes, that’s when things start to get really complicated.

Nevertheless, we’ve crunched the numbers and now we’re going to throw our hat into the ring, well octagon, and count down who we believe are the Top 10 UFC Fighters of All Time.

There is no doubt controversy will reign! But who will reign as the number one Greatest UFC Fighter of All Time? Let’s find out!

Top 10 Greatest UFC Fighters of All Time

10. Connor McGregor

Notorious indeed. Kicking things off with arguably the greatest entertainer the fight game has ever seen, Connor McGregor.

There was a moment there where McGregor seemingly ran the UFC. While those days seem long gone, he was definitely responsible for helping bring MMA to the masses.

He could scrap with the best of them too. One of the best strikers of all time, the Irishman is a former Featherweight and Lightweight champion.

At the time he was the first fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold UFC championships in two different weight classes.

UFC record: 22-6-0.

9. Henry Cejudo

From an underrated striker, to one of the finest wrestlers the UFC has ever seen. Rolling into number nine is freestyle wrestling extraordinaire Henry Cejudo.

He may be small in stature, but his achievements in the world of fighting are massive.

A former Flyweight and Bantamweight champion in the UFC, Cejudo is the fourth fighter to hold two different titles in two different weight classes simultaneously and only the second to defend titles in two different weight divisions.

He also has Olympic Gold in wrestling which he earned in 2008 at the Beijing Games.

It shouldn’t be surprising that the 37-year-old is such a natural when it comes to wrestling, he literally has judo in his name. The clue is in the title as they say.

UFC record: 16-4-0.

8. Alexander Volkanovski

Up next is Aussie fighting royalty, Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski.

Never one to shy away from a fight, Volkanovski has been lauded throughout his career for his willingness to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere.

While many of his contemporaries are overly selective of who they fight, regardless of his regard, Volk can never be accused of dodging fights.

Volk is a former Featherweight Champion in the UFC, and he successfully defended that title many times, most notably in his trilogy of fights against Max Holloway.

Previously the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, Volkanovski is one of the greatest Australian athletes of all time and our number eight pick in the race for the greatest UFC fighter of all time.

UFC record: 26-4-0.

7. Daniel Cormier

He talks the talk these days as a UFC commentator, but boy did DC walk the walk in his prime.

Regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of his generation, Daniel Cormier finds his way onto our list at number seven.

Fighting across both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions during his career, Cormier won championships in both.

At the time he became just the second fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously and the first to have title defences in two divisions as well.

Cormier retired in 2018, with his legacy as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history well and truly secured.

Especially considering his only losses came against two all time greats (Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic), one of which he holds a win over.

UFC record: 22-3-0.

6. Amanda Nunes

The first and to date, only, women's double-champ, Amanda Nunes comes in swinging at number six on our list.

She held simultaneous titles across bantamweight and featherweight and completed no fewer than seven successful title defences.

Her ability to defend both belts simultaneously for an extended period has cemented her position as the greatest ever female UFC fighter and landed her at number six on our list here.

At the time of her retirement in 2023, Nunes was still the #1 ranked UFC women’s pound-for-pound fighter, truly going out on top.

UFC record: 23-5-0.

5. Khabib Nurmagomedov

We’re halfway there. Coming in at number five is the longest-reigning lightweight in UFC history – Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Another fighter who bowed out at the top of his game, Khabib was also the #1 ranked pound-for-pounder fighter amongst his peers when he announced his retirement in 2020.

Probably the last person on the planet you want to find yourself on the canvas with, Khabib’s wrestling skills are unparalleled and there are a number of fighters in the UFC as well as bears in Dagestan that can attest to that.

The only reason Khabib isn’t higher up on this list is because of the fights he didn’t have. Most notable of these is his “cursed” fight against Tony Fergueson which never materialised despite numerous attempts to make it happen.

After retiring with a perfect 29-0 record, Khabib Nurmagomedov’s status as a UFC legend was confirmed when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022.

UFC record: 29-0-0.

4. Demetrious Johnson

The man they call Mighty Mouse squeaks into number four on our UFC GOAT list, just ahead of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

A true trailblazer, Demetrious Johnson was the inaugural UFC Flyweight Champion and he still to this day holds the record for the most finishes in UFC Flyweight history, with seven.

While champion, Johnson also pulled off a mind-blowing 11 successful title defences. Not just considered one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, he is also recognised as one of the fastest.

His uncanny ability to land a flurry of fast punches and kicks to his opponents before quickly darting out of their reach earned him this reputation, as well as plaudits from a number of renowned pundits in the fight game.

Not to mention he is largely recognised as one of the most well-rounded fighters in UFC history, synonymous with his iconic flying armbar finish on Ray Borg.

UFC record: 27-3-1.

3. Anderson Silva

Swinging onto the podium is Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Regarded as the best Middleweight of all time, Silva fought across both middleweight and light-heavyweight.

As the former Middleweight Champion, Silva to this day still holds the record for the longest title reign in UFC history.

He held the Middleweight title for a staggering 2,457 days, completing 10 successful title defences in that time.

Speaking of staggering, that’s how he left most of his opponents during that reign. With his hands down and using cerebral movement to set up incredible knockouts – time and time again he left his opponents dazed and confused inside the octagon.

The biggest detractor from his GOAT status is his late-career fall-off, which saw seven of his 11 losses coming right near the end of his career.

UFC record: 34-11-0 (1 NC).

2. George St-Pierre

Collecting the silver medal here, is one of the game’s great innovators, George St-Pierre. Like others on this list, GSP was also a two-time champion earning both Welterweight and Middleweight titles during his time in the UFC.

He clearly wasn’t too keen on giving them up either, pulling off nine incredible title defences.

While he was defeated twice, he avenged both of those losses in truly dominant fashion, proving true champions never stay down.

It’s not just GSP’s record and titles which keep him in such high regard to this day. It was how in his heyday he revolutionized the sport with his methodical and well-rounded approach to fighting.

Thanks to St-Pierre, fighters quickly realised they needed to have both an incredible grappling and striking skill set

In his prime he was beating fighters at their own game. Out striking the strikers and out wrestling the grapplers.

UFC record: 26-2-0.

1. Jon Jones

AND STILL! After his latest exploits at UFC 309, it now seems impossible to deny that Jon “Bones” Jones is the greatest UFC fighter of all time.

Putting the hits in greatest hits, Jones’ resume needs to be seen to be believed. After his latest triumph he is now a champion across two different weight classes, Light-Heavyweight and Heavyweight.

This is arguably the most impressive feat of all the UFC’s champions to acquire titles in more than one weight class, due to the huge weight discrepancy between the two classes - 205lbs vs 265lbs.

In addition to this he also has the most title defences of all time with 13 and currently holds the record as the youngest champion in UFC history, claiming his first belt when he was just 23.

If all that wasn’t enough to seal his GOAT status, he also has: the longest Light-Heavyweight Championship reign (1,501 days), longest unbeaten streak in UFC history (20) and most wins in UFC title fights (16) in history.

Never one to run from anyone, Jones has gone through an absolute murderer’s row of fighters during his time in the UFC title and has well and truly earned his title at the #1 greatest UFC fighter of all time.

UFC record: 28-1-0 (1 NC).
