27/05/2026|SB Staff|Tennis Tips & Predictions
machac vs zverev

The duo managed to successfully navigate their First Round ties, with both doing so in convincing fashion.

The Second Round tie will take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 19:15 BST (04:15 AEST).

Quick Picks

  • Our pick: Zverev to win
  • Value bet: Alexander Zverev to Win and 35+ Total Match Games
  • Long shot: Alexander Zverev 3-1 in set betting

Betting Preview

With Carlos Alcaraz out, Zverev arguably has one of his greatest opportunities to win a Grand Slam, having been a runner-up on three occasions.

He was runner-up at the French Open in 2024, where he was beaten by the Spaniard in five sets.

While the German is an all-court player, he does tend to favour the clay surface a little more than others, which could set him up to go far in this competition.

If you want to understand tennis surfaces, clay typically rewards players with strong baseline games. He already has a straight-sets victory this year, having beaten Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

In that clash, he had five aces and just one double fault, winning 13 of his service games and losing just one of two break points against him.

Machac, though, stands in his way and could represent a tough challenge. Although he has never made it beyond the Third Round of the Roland Garros, he is 18-15 and holds some big wins.

The Czech managed to get past Zizou Bergs in straight sets in the First Round, winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, and did so by managing to break serve five times out of a possible 12. He did have double faults, but had five aces.

Betting Markets to Watch

The early market betting has Zverev as the clear favourite to win this encounter, and it's not all that surprising. Indeed, Zverev has won each of his last 16 ATP Second Round matches in France.

However, the line is quite short for the German in the moneyline outcome, with value worth exploring elsewhere.

For those new to the sport, understanding how to bet on tennis can help you identify these opportunities.

The 'Over' in the Total Games market looks appealing. The line has been set at 34.5. While many may feel Zverev won't drop too many, seven of Machac's last eight completed ATP Second Round matches on clay have gone over the total match games line.

By extension, the 'Alexander Zverev to Win and 35+ Total Match Games' bet in the 'BYO Sportsbet - Featured' category becomes very interesting for the value being offered.

Elsewhere, the Game Handicap market for Zverev at -6.5 also appears to have some value. Zverev has covered the game handicap in each of his last five Grand Slam main draw matches.

Our prediction is that Zverev is the likely winner of the match.

We think there's value in the 'Alexander Zverev 3-1' set betting market, as Machac has the ability to win at least one set.
