Royer vs Djokovitc

The two players will meet on the Philippe-Chatrier court on Wednesday, May 27 (local time), with the local native looking to cause a huge shock against the former world's #1 and 3x French Open winner.

Quick Picks

  • Our pick: Djokovic to win
  • Value bet: Novak Djokovic - To Win 1st Set
  • Long shot: Novak Djokovic 3-1 in set betting

Betting Preview

Don't write off Djokovic. The veteran has a genuine shot at a fourth French Open title this year, and Carlos Alcaraz's absence only sharpens the opportunity.

Of course, Jannik Sinner is involved, but the Serb will back himself against anyone.

Djokovic didn't have it easy in his first-round contest, though. Taking on Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, he would ultimately win the match in four sets, having dropped the first to go on and win 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, 6-4.

He had 12 aces, although he was out-aced by his opponent recording 16. He managed to have just two double faults in the contest, and won on 81% of his first serve.

He won five of 16 break points in the game, allowing just five and conceding two.

Royer had an "easier" time in the First Round, as he managed to defeat Hugo Dellien in straight sets.

The Frenchman would win 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, recording six aces and winning almost half of the break points that were available (7/15).

He is a dangerous opponent on clay, as he has gone 15-10 over the last 52 weeks, and is 136-64 over his career on this surface.

Understanding different tennis surfaces can help punters appreciate why clay specialists like Royer pose unique challenges.

Betting Markets to Watch

Naturally, Djokovic is the heavy favourite to win this contest in the betting odds available.

When you take into account that Djokovic has won each of his last 32 Grand Slam Second Round matches, let alone his reputation, it's impossible not to see why the value is so short.

However, we feel there may be value in other markets for this match worth exploring. For those new to the sport, learning how to bet on tennis can provide a solid foundation for understanding these markets.

The 'Novak Djokovic - To Win 1st Set' bet is worth an option for additional value. The Serb has won the first set in 18 of his last 19 completed Grand Slam Second Round matches.

Greater value is available in the handicap market, with Djokovic at -7.5; he has covered the game handicap in each of his last five ATP main draw matches at the French Open.

Our Prediction

Our prediction is that Djokovic is the likely winner of the match.

Given the slow start he made in the First Round and Royer's ability on clay, we think there's value in the 'Novak Djokovic 3-1' set betting market.
