At 36 years and 82 days, Jan-Lennard Struff is the oldest man in the Open Era to reach a first Grand Slam quarter-final, a fairytale run built on a booming serve and three gruelling wins.
Standing in his way is world No.1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner, who owns a clean 3-0 record over the German.
- Competition: Wimbledon 2026, Men’s Singles Quarter-Final
- Venue: All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon, London
- Date: Tuesday, July 7, 2026
- Start Time: Approx 10:30pm AEST (Tuesday)
Sinner vs Struff Form and Head to Head
Sinner leads the head-to-head 3-0 overall and has controlled most of their encounters, though their most recent meeting on grass pushed him all the way.
That came at Halle in 2024, where Sinner edged a tight three-setter 6-2, 6-7(1), 7-6(3). This is their first ever Grand Slam meeting.
Struff arrives red-hot, stunning 8th seed Medvedev in straight sets before Hurkacz retired hurt while trailing in the fourth round.
Sinner has been less fluent, surviving a five-set opener against Kecmanovic that included a nasty fall, before routine wins over Borges, Brooksby and Mochizuki.
The Physical Toll of Struff’s Marathon Run
Struff’s charge to the last eight has come at a steep cost. He has ground through two five-setters against Sebastian Baez and Brandon Nakashima, then battled deep into a fourth-set-and-beyond slog with Hurkacz before the Pole pulled out.
That is a heavy workload for any 36-year-old, let alone one contesting a maiden Slam quarter-final.
Sinner, by contrast, has spent far less time on court outside his opening-round scare. The German’s serve - he fired down 44 aces in his marathon with Nakashima alone *- remains his weapon, but fatigue in the legs against a relentless returner is a genuine concern.
Sinner vs Struff Betting Markets
The market reflects a significant gulf in class, with Sinner a heavy favourite and Struff very much the roughie despite his heroics.
Set betting and handicap markets carry plenty of appeal here, as does Struff’s ace line given his serving numbers this fortnight. Head to our odds page at Sportsbet for the latest Sinner vs Struff prices and markets.
Punters weighing this one should also note Sinner’s strength returning serve, which will test even one of grass tennis’s biggest hitters, and the total games line given the projected quick finish.
Sinner vs Struff Prediction: Our Pick
Sinner looks far too strong here and should have enough to close this out in straight sets.
The class gap is obvious. Sinner’s 3-0 record over Struff tells the story of a matchup he has consistently controlled, and his grass-court pedigree as defending champion sets him apart.
Struff’s dream run has demanded enormous physical output, with two five-setters and a marathon Hurkacz battle draining the tank ahead of the biggest match of his life.
While the German’s serve can steal a tiebreak and keep sets tight, Sinner’s return game and superior movement should tell over the best of five. The obvious risk is Struff catching fire on serve early, but backing Sinner to cover the -1.5 sets handicap looks the sharper play.
