Tristan Schoolkate vs Flavio Cobolli Prediction and Betting Odds

Aussie Tristan Schoolkate will take on one of the world’s best in Italian Flavio Cobolli at the US Open.

The two will meet in the second round after being pushed to their limits in the first matches, with their showdown scheduled for Friday, September 4, at approximately 13:00 AEST (time is currently an estimate).

Quick Picks

Our pick: Cobolli to win

Value bet: Cobolli to win 3-1 in set betting

Long shot: Schoolkate to win first set

Betting Preview

It has already been one hell of a tournament for Schoolkate. He has reached the second round in the last three editions of this event, seemingly enjoying the American hard courts. To reach this stage, he has put in some impressive performances, winning three qualifiers and a first-round contest.

In his first-round match, Perth-born Schoolkate defeated American Nishesh Basavareddy, hitting 25 aces and just four double faults. He won the first set in a tiebreak before losing the second. But he would win the contest by taking the next two sets, scoring an impressive 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

For Cobolli, there’s a lot of expectation on his shoulders as a top-level player. With some shocks in the tournament already, most notably Novak Djokovic’s early exit, Cobolli was almost added to that list.

He suffered a real scare when he managed to claim victory from the jaws of defeat against Argentine Francisco Comesana. His opponent took the first two sets before Cobolli rallied to win the final three sets and advance.

Having looked dead and buried losing 3-6, 2-6 in the first two sets, the Italian dug deep and managed to rally back and win the next three 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to claim victory. Still, it’s worth noting that the Italian has had trouble getting started in the right way over his last four matches.

Betting Markets to Watch

In the Men's US Open betting odds, Cobolli has been made a big favourite in the moneyline to win. His odds are very short, but he has won each of his last six Grand Slam second round matches. That is why there’s a lot of confidence in him to win here, despite almost going out.

However, you wouldn’t think Schoolkate is going to make it easy for the fifth seed. He has already shown his skill as an emerging player, and that confidence could take his game to a new level. Still, Cobolli is an experienced pro, and his near-early exit could add a little extra fire to his game.

Given the Italian has struggled in his last four matches to win the first set, we think there’s value worth exploring in the Cobolli 3-1 market in the set betting . He’ll likely have too much for the Aussie across the match, and it’s likely that quality will see him through. But it wouldn’t be a surprise for Schoolkate to snatch a set at some point, and possibly the first.

By extension, we think there’s value in Schoolkate to win at least one set .

Our Prediction

You can check out the latest Tristan Schoolkate vs Flavio Cobolli betting odds at Sportsbet. Our prediction is that Cobolli is the likely winner of the match.

Although Schoolkate has lost the first set in seven of his last eight ATP main draw matches, we think there’s value in Schoolkate to win the first set . It’s a long shot, but Cobolli hasn’t won the first set in his last four matches.
