Gauff vs Sherif Prediction & Betting Odds

Gauff vs Sherif

The two are scheduled to clash in the next stage of the major on Thursday, May 28, with the time of their match yet to be determined.

Quick Picks

  • Our pick: Gauff to win
  • Value bet: Gauff in the handicap
  • Long shot: Gauff 2-0 in Set Betting

Betting Preview

A two-time major winner, Gauff has enjoyed herself on clay, despite being considered a hard-court specialist. Her best results have often come on this surface, and she showed once again why she is the current champion and a force to be reckoned with in the First Round.

She defeated fellow American Taylor Townsend in straight sets, doing so with relative ease. She won the first 6-4, before claiming a 6-0 victory in the second to seal her place in the next round.

Perhaps what's more notable was that it wasn't her best performance. She had managed to record just one ace (as did Townsend), but she made five double faults (Townsend made two).

She did win 6 of 12 break points on offer, but her first serve landed less than two-thirds of the time (61%).

Egyptian Mayar Sherif awaits her, as she has managed to come through the qualifiers in addition to the First Round. The game against Gauff will be her fifth of the event, but she appears to have improved with each performance.

Taking just her First Round into account, she managed to defeat Dalma Galfi in straight sets.

She was made to work for it, though, as she would win 7-5, 6-4. She had just two double faults, landed 78% of her first serves, and had two aces.

Betting Markets to Watch

Defending champion Gauff is the heavy favourite to win this upcoming match, with little value available in the moneyline odds. Given that she won each of her last 14 WTA Second Round matches on clay and reached the final in Rome, it's not a surprise.

Still, there's better value to be found elsewhere. The market for her to win the 1st Set has better value than the moneyline, especially as she has won the first set in each of her last 14 Grand Slam Second Round matches.

Elsewhere, the handicap line for Gauff has even better value being offered. With the line set at -6.5, Sherif has failed to cover the game handicap in seven of her last eight completed WTA main draw matches against opponents from the USA.
