The English Premier League Golden Boot betting market is a hugely popular future wager for many punters, given the quality of the attackers on show each season.
It’s almost been a formality in recent seasons, with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland winning it in three of the last four seasons.
Only Mohamed Salah had stopped him from winning it three times in a row, but the Egyptian King is no longer at Liverpool.
So, will someone else challenge the Norwegian, or has he got it all wrapped up once again?
Quick Picks
Our pick: Haaland to win
Value bet: Isak in the each-way
Long shot: Joao Pedro in the each-way
Betting Preview
Haaland has been nothing but incredible when it comes to doing the hardest thing in soccer and scoring goals. As noted above, since arriving in the EPL in 2022, the race to the Golden Boot has essentially been his to lose.
In his first campaign, he netted 36 to set a Premier League record for most goals in a season, before adding a further 27 in two of the next three seasons to claim his second and third award. Only Salah and Thierry Henry have more than him at four each.
Last season, his 27 strikes came in 35 games, but he also managed 27 in 31 in 2023/24, highlighting his quality further. He was pushed last year by someone no one had expected – Brentford’s Igor Thiago.
The Brazilian forward scored an impressive 22 goals in his debut campaign, which saw him go to the World Cup. He also had a hat-trick in the league campaign, something which Haaland failed to achieve.
Man City team-mate Antonie Semenyo scored 17, having started the season strongly at Bournemouth before a January move, while Ollie Watkins scored 16 goals for Aston Villa to finish fourth.
Betting Markets to Watch
Naturally, Haaland leads the betting by some distance to be the Golden Boot winner, as the outright favourite.
With his odds hardly offering any real value, the each-way market may have better value for punters, with four places being paid at 1/4 odds.
Alexander Isak may feel he has a point to prove after an injury-hit debut season at Liverpool. He will also have the pressure of scoring goals given Salah has left, and Hugo Ekitike is out injured.
He has value in his odds, as he scored 54 EPL goals in 86 appearances for Newcastle, before netting three in 14 for the Reds.
Watkins remains Villa’s focal point of attack, but questions will be asked about how well Villa can play and create opportunities for him.
Remember, Villa have lost Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans from the midfield, while Amadou Onana is currently out injured.
Our Prediction
Check the latest EPL outright betting odds at Sportsbet.
Haaland is our prediction to be the Golden Boot winner.
Isak has value in the each-way market, as he will have plenty of responsibility and game-time.
He’s looked decent in pre-season, although the Swede’s injury record is a concern, Our long shot is Joao Pedro at Chelsea.
The Brazilian scored 15 goals in his debut campaign, and may have a chip on his shoulder after being left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.
With Chelsea strengthening their side significantly this year, don’t be surprised if Pedro hits more than 20 goals this season.
