Lucas Herrington Bio
Lucas Herrington is one of Australia’s most promising young central defenders, combining imposing physical presence with composure beyond his years.
Born on 5 September 2007 in Brisbane, Queensland, Herrington developed through local clubs including Taringa Rovers, Toowong FC and Brisbane City before joining the Brisbane Roar academy in 2019.
He progressed quickly through the youth ranks and broke into professional football with Brisbane Roar, where he established himself as a highly regarded young defender in the A-League Men.
His strong performances, clean-sheet contributions and maturity on the ball earned him a move to Major League Soccer with Colorado Rapids in 2026.
At international level, Herrington has represented Australia across multiple youth age groups and was part of the Young Socceroos squad that won the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup.
In 2026, he made the step up to the senior Socceroos, underlining his growing reputation as a long-term defensive prospect for Australia.
Lucas Herrington Club Career
Herrington came through the youth systems of Taringa Rovers, Toowong FC and Brisbane City before joining Brisbane Roar’s academy in 2019.
He continued his development there and featured for Brisbane Roar Youth in 2023, showing enough promise to earn a three-year scholarship contract in September 2024.
He made his senior and professional debut for Brisbane Roar on 14 December 2024 in a 2–2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers.
During his first professional season, he made 17 appearances and scored his first senior goal in a 4–3 win over Sydney FC in January 2025.
In the early part of the 2025–26 season, Herrington added further experience, making 11 A-League appearances, scoring once against Newcastle Jets and contributing to six clean sheets.
His strong displays at such a young age attracted overseas interest, and he agreed a move to Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids, with the transfer completed in January 2026.
He signed a contract through to 2029, with an option for an extra year. Herrington made his MLS debut on 22 February 2026 against Seattle Sounders, before scoring his first goal for Colorado a week later in a 2–0 win over Portland Timbers, a match in which he also kept a clean sheet.
His transition to MLS was immediate, starting every league game early in his Rapids career and showing why he is considered one of Australia’s top young defensive prospects.
Lucas Herrington International Career
Herrington has steadily risen through Australia’s youth national team pathway. He was part of the Australia U19 side that finished third at the 2024 ASEAN U-19 Boys Championship, before taking the next step with the Australia U20s.
In 2025, he was a member of the Young Socceroos squad that won the AFC U-20 Asian Cup, a landmark achievement for Australia at youth level.
He was also selected for Australia’s U18 squad for the 2025 UEFA Friendship Cup, underlining how highly regarded he was across multiple age groups.
His rapid development at club level led to a maiden senior Socceroos call-up in March 2026 for the FIFA Series matches against Cameroon and Curaçao.
That promotion to the senior national team marked another major milestone in a career that has advanced quickly, and now he has earned a call up to Tony Popovic's final 26-man World Cup squad.
