Tunisia vs Japan Prediction

19/06/2026|SB Staff|World Cup 2026 Tips & Predictions
Tunisia vs Japan Prediction

Both nations will be aiming to get their first win of the tournament in this encounter, with plenty on the line for both Tunisia and Japan.

Tunisia will be led by Hervé Renard after they sacked Sabri Lamouchi after their 5-1 defeat against Sweden, while Japan’s Hajime Moriyasu will be hoping for more of the same from their 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.

To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Tunisia vs Japan prediction

The early betting odds have Japan as the pre-match favourites, but this isn’t a big surprise given how the two nations enter this game following their first Group F clashes.

As our Tunisia vs Japan betting odds page shows, Japan are well clear in the market.

Tunisia’s players could be looking at trying to implement a new style and brand of soccer immediately under Renard, which is difficult to do in international soccer with such a limited amount of time.

Additionally, they were simply outclassed against Sweden, and a tenacious Japan side won’t make it easy. Furthermore, Tunisia have lost the last seven matches, including qualifiers, when they have been made underdogs.

Moriyasu’s side were impressive against the Netherlands in their opening tournament match, holding their own and almost punishing the Europeans.

It’s likely that they will produce another similar performance as they continue to go under the radar as an all-round side with quality and depth, despite missing key players.

As a result, we think this one is likely to see Japan be the winners…

If you fancy this clash, have a squiz at how the various World Cup betting markets stack up before locking anything in, and it's worth knowing what a multi bet actually is if you want to pair Tunisia and Japan with other results.

Tunisia vs Japan score prediction

There’s going to be potential value in this game regarding the goal market. Tunisia know they have to attack, but they are very vulnerable at the back, as was evident in their encounter against Sweden.

We think the ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has a good chance of hitting in this one, with it having done so for both in their previous matches. At the same time, including qualifiers, the 'Over 2.5 Goals' market has hit in each of Tunisia's last three tournament matches.

On top of that, we think there will be value in the BTTS hitting, as both teams have shown they can find the net but concede. The 'Both Teams to Score' market has hit in seven of Tunisia's last eight main tournament night matches.

The 2-1 Japan Correct Score market appears to have value worth exploring, as Japan has won two of their last four Group Stage matches by this scoreline.

Tunisia vs Japan team news and line-ups

Predicted Tunisia line-up (4-3-3): Dahmen, Valery, Talbi, Bronn, Ben Ouanes, Skhiri, Ben Slimane, Mejbri, Achouri, Saad, Gharbi.

Tunisia parted ways with their head coach after an opening loss to Sweden, so interim staff are expected to set up a deep, compact low block to repair a leaky back line.

Japan are likely to lean on the high-tempo passing and quick transitions that earned them a 2-2 comeback draw against the Netherlands on Matchday 1

Kaoru Mitoma is expected to miss out with a hamstring injury, while Wataru Endo is expected to miss out.

Player markets to watch

Although not particularly known for his goalscoring ability, Daichi Kamada has good value as an anytime goalscorer based on his recent international form.

He scored the late leveller against the Netherlands in the first group stage, having had two in his previous competitive tournament qualifying appearance, as well as another a few games before.

As such, he enters this game with four in his last five.

Keito Nakamura also scored against the Netherlands and has good value to score again in this one. The attacker had three shots against the Europeans and could find he has a similar amount in this one.

Takefusa Kubo to score or assist has value after he provided Nakamura with his goal. He had a solid outing and built on a strong La Liga campaign for his club.

For Tunisia, Elias Saad will be hoping his team-mates can support him a little better this time around, as he managed just one shot on goal in the game against Sweden.

He is arguably their best hope of scoring a goal, with the striker scoring three in his last five matches.
