England vs Ghana Prediction

23/06/2026|SB Staff|World Cup 2026 Tips & Predictions
ENGLAND VS GHANA

England and Ghana both have three points after winning their opening Group L contests. A win will see the victors advance to the next stage, leaving the other to need a positive result in their final Group Stage encounter.

To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!

How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.

For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!

Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.

Quick Picks

Value bet: Over 3.5 Goals

Long shot: England 3-1 correct score

England vs Ghana Prediction

The betting odds have England as the heavy favourites in the moneyline, with Ghana seen as the big underdogs. As our England vs Ghana betting odds page shows, including in the qualifiers played, England have won each of their last nine matches in this competition.

They arguably didn’t play their best soccer against Croatia, certainly being pegged back twice in the first half, but they managed to use their quality to get the job done, with Thomas Tuchel’s side winning 4-2.

Ghana snatched a win themselves against Panama, but it came in the final moments of the game. The question in this one will be around whether Carlos Queiroz’s side can hold on for that long and steal one on the break.

It’s unlikely given England’s quality and dominance, and why we think it’s likely that Tuchel’s team will win again.

England vs Ghana Score Prediction

England had a habit of scoring at least two goals in almost every qualifying game and exerted their scoring prowess against Croatia in the opening game. By the same token, Ghana only failed to score in one of their games in qualifying, suggesting that there could be goals in this one.

That is why we think there may be significant value worth exploring in the ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ market. The 'Over 3.5 Goals' market has hit in each of England's last three Group Stage day matches, while Ghana have shown that they can score frequently.

It is worth noting that the 'Over 2.5 Goals' market has hit in each of Ghana's five previous day matches outside of its own region.

The 'Both Teams to Score' market has hit in each of Ghana's last four day matches, while it also hit in England’s opener.

They were far from solid at the back in their game against Croatia, which Ghana could look to exploit given the quality they have in attack. As a result, the BTTS hitting has value.

Still, we think the goals will flow, and think value in the England 3-1 correct score market.

If you fancy stringing England and a few other results together, our explainer on what a multi bet is is worth a read, and you can scan the latest World Cup betting markets before you settle on this one.

England vs Ghana Team News & Line-ups

Predicted England line-up: Jordan Pickford, Reece James, Ezri Konsa, John Stones, Nico O'Reilly, Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson, Noni Madueke, Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane.

Tuchel is weighing up a change at centre-back after England's opening-night defenders faced questions over Croatia's goals, with a reshuffle in the heart of defence on the cards.

Bukayo Saka is a doubt with an Achilles concern, Marcus Rashford faces a late fitness test on a hamstring concern, while Declan Rice faces a late fitness test on a hamstring concern.

Predicted Ghana line-up (4-2-3-1): Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku, Jonas Adjetey, Gideon Mensah, Antoine Semenyo, Elisha Owusu, Ernest Nuamah, Caleb Yirenkyi, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Jordan Ayew.

Queiroz leans on a disciplined double pivot and wide attacking threat, and is likely to sit deep and soak up pressure after reportedly struggling for possession against Panama.

Lawrence Ati-Zigi is a doubt with a knock, while Thomas Partey returns from suspension.

Player markets to watch

Harry Kane started his tournament with two goals after an impressive campaign with Bayern Munich, and as the focal point of the England attack, he’ll be a top pick again as an anytime goalscorer.

However, he’ll have slightly greater value as the first goalscorer. Including qualifiers, he has been the first goalscorer in each of England's last two matches. Better value worth exploring could be in the 2+ goals market for Kane, as he has scored two goals in three of England's last four matches, including in qualifiers.

Marcus Rashford is another who got himself on the scoresheet in the opening game, and offers value as an anytime goalscorer. He has scored at least one goal in three of England's last four Group Stage matches.

For Ghana, Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo offers value as an anytime goalscorer. Remember, he’ll know how to attack against the English defence and potentially exploit any frailties.

Jordan Ayew is another who has value, although it may be better in the ‘To Score or Assist’ market, as, including qualifiers, he has scored or assisted in seven of Ghana's last nine tournament matches.
