The World Cup continues with Austria and Jordan kicking off their campaigns in Group J on Wednesday, June 17. Read our preview of this upcoming contest between two nations that will be looking to secure points as quickly as possible in a group that continues Argentina and Algeria.
To celebrate the momentous occasion that is the World Cup, Sportsbet is bringing back its exclusive Super Sub feature!
How does Super Sub work? Well, it’s very simple. Place a bet on select player markets throughout the Men’s World Cup and if that player is subbed off your bet rolls over to the new player that replaced them.
For example, if you’ve bet on Kylian Mbappe to score during one of France’s matches and during that match he fails to do so and is directly substituted for Jean-Philippe Mateta who ends up scoring instead, your original bet on Mbappe is paid as a winner!
Super Sub is not exclusive to goalscoring markets either, it also applies to anytime assist, player to win one or more fouls, shots on target and more, just make sure to read all the T&Cs before locking in your bet.
Quick Picks
Our pick: Austria to win

Long shot: Draw 1-1
Austria vs Jordan prediction
Austria are perceived as huge favourites heading into this contest, and as the Austria vs Jordan odds show, the bookmakers expect a comfortable European win, with Jordan playing in its inaugural tournament after Jamal Sellami led them to qualifying success.
However, there may be better value in the draw market, especially as Middle Eastern nations can cause problems for European nations in the North American heat.
We saw this between Switzerland and Qatar, as their game finished 1-1 despite the European nation dominating. Furthermore, including qualifiers, each of Jordan's last two matches as an underdog have resulted in a draw.
Austria reached the 2026 tournament thanks to a 6-1-1 W/D/L record in UEFA qualifiers, led by Marko Arnautović’s nation-high nine goal involvements. Jordan secured qualification from the AFC thanks to an 8-5-3 W/D/L record, scoring five goals as a result of penalties awarded to them.
Our prediction is that we think it’s likely that Austria win, as they have the quality needed to overcome a potentially tricky encounter.
Austria vs Jordan score prediction
Goals are likely in this game, but the value appears to be in the second half rather than any being scored in the first 45 when these two teams meet in San Francisco.
The half-time scoreline has been 0-0 in each of Austria's last four tournament matches, while including qualifiers, the 'Under 2.5 Goals' market has hit in each of Austria's last three.
By extension, the '2nd Half Over 1.5 Goals' market has hit in each of Austria's last four matches. Still, we think there’s better value in the under 1.5 goals in the 2nd half market as we think this one could be cagey.
Austria could find themselves struggling as Switzerland did in their contest with Qatar, as they have a tendency to concede goals.
The 'Both Teams to Score' market has hit in each of Austria's last four tournament matches, and with Jordan having some attacking threat, there’s a real possibility that the BTTS hits in this one.
Our long shot is for a 1-1 draw, as each of Austria's last two night matches in this tournament has ended 1-1. However, we think there’s better value in Austria to win 1-0.
Austria vs Jordan team news and line-ups
Predicted Austria line-up (4-2-3-1): Alexander Schlager, Konrad Laimer, Philipp Lienhart, David Alaba, Philipp Mwene, Xaver Schlager, Nicolas Seiwald, Romano Schmid, Marcel Sabitzer, Michael Gregoritsch, Marko Arnautović.
Ralf Rangnick's side head in on the back of recent wins and will look to dominate possession against their opponents.
Christoph Baumgartner is expected to miss out, David Alaba and Florian Grillitsch are doubts, while Patrick Wimmer is reportedly a doubt.
Predicted Jordan line-up (3-4-3): Yazeed Abu laila, Saleem Obaid, Yazan Alarab, Abdallah Nasib, Mahmoud Al Mardi Haddad, Nizar Al-Rashdan, Noor Al Rawabdeh, Mohammad Abu Taha, Mousa Tamari, Ali Olwan, Odeh Fakhoury.
The team arrive on a difficult stretch and will be focused on staying compact and avoiding a heavy defeat in their opening match.
Yazan Al Naimat is expected to miss out with a long-term injury, while Ibrahim Sabra is expected to miss out with withdrawal from the squad.
Player markets to watch
Austria will likely rely on Arnautović’s threat and positive recent form to help lead the way, which is why he has value as an anytime goalscorer. In fact, as he’ll likely be the focal point, he could be worth better value as the first goalscorer.
He has six goals in his last three games, including four during a 10-0 qualifier against San Marino. The Red Star Belgrade forward, now 37, had seven goals and eight assists for his club across 16 matches, while scoring eight times and providing one in qualification.
Paul Wanner offers creativity to Ralf Rangnick’s side and could be worth value for an assist. The young PSV midfielder is only 20, but he had three goals and two assists for his club this season. He’ll offer good value as he is very inexperienced at international level, with just three caps to his name.
Jordan will be without their leading scorer from World Cup qualifying, Yazan Al-Naimat, which could see their chances of scoring be further limited against a settled and confident Austria team.
Still, captain Musa Al-Taamari offers good value as he has 24 goals in 92 games for his country, while Ali Olwan has 29 in 66 games, including five in his last five, with each of them coming in two games against Oman.
