Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos Prediction – Round 23 2025
06/08/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips
For the third successive week, the Melbourne Storm will kick off the round of footy with a Thursday night encounter, this time hosting the Brisbane Broncos at AAMI Park.

The Storm have completely owned this matchup since their inception into the NRL, including holding a remarkable 26-3 head-to-head record over the Broncos from the 2011 season onwards.

A lot is on the line as the Storm look to lock down a top two spot while the Broncos chase a double chance in the run home. Both clubs will welcome back Origin stars for this crucial clash. Brisbane’s Payne Haas is back speedily from his leg infection in a straight swap with Xavier Willison, who broke his arm during Friday’s 60-14 rout of the Rabbitohs.

The Storm have named Trent Loiero at lock after he was rested ahead of last week’s 16-10 win over Parramatta. Bronson Garlick drops out of the 17 as Ativalu Lisati goes back to the interchange.

Storm vs Broncos Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

What a way to open NRL round 23. Old foes Melbourne and Brisbane kick off proceedings this week, when they meet at AAMI Park on Thursday night.

It was rabbit season at Suncorp last Friday night, as the Broncos bounced back from their shock loss to the Eels with a 60-point slaughter of struggling South Sydney.

Speaking of the Eels, that’s who the Storm saw off, just. Jahrome Hughes absence was plain for all to see as they only just crept past the lowly Eels thanks to a late Xavier Coates try.

We’re very, very tempted to take the Broncos here, based on momentum and injuries, but their record at AAMI Park makes them nearly untippable.

They’ve only won on three out of 15 attempts at this venue and while eventually that does have to become four, we’re not taking that chance this time around. Melbourne by a nose.

Betting tip: Melbourne Storm.

First Tryscorer Prediction

We’re going to try and sniff out some value in this market and take a forward as the first try scorer.

Eliesa Katoa has scored a try in four of Melbourne's last five matches at AAMI Park, so he clearly loves playing at home. Look to him to get the party started for Melbourne in Melbourne.

Betting tip: Eliesa Katoa.

Line Prediction

Brisbane has covered the line in each of its last seven matches as an away underdog when playing with a rest disadvantage.

Betting tip: Brisbane Broncos (+6.5).
