NRL Round 13 brings the seven teams that had a bye back into the arena after the major bye round.

Massive upsets from the Roosters and the Knights stole the show in round 12, with the Roosters putting on a scoring clinic against the Sharks, meanwhile, Dylan Lucas for Newcastle had a dominating performance against an understrength Penrith side.

The first game of State of Origin kicks off Wednesday night before round 13 starts on Friday night.

There might be some gold in them hills – or maybe some winning picks.

Let’s uncover the secrets of Round 13 in the NRL.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Newcastle Knights Prediction

Friday, May 30, 8pm AEST – Jubilee Stadium

NRL Round 13 kicks off Friday night between the Dragons and the Knights at Jubilee Stadium.

With a few Origin selections from both of these sides combined, both teams are hopeful for their return for this matchup.

Newcastle have Kalyn Ponga in Origin, and the Dragons have Valentine Holmes and Jaydn Su’A who also made their way onto Billy Slater’s side.

Both sides have won two out of their last five matches, and their last wins have come unexpectedly.

With more talent on the Dragons available for the clash at home, we’re tipping the Dragons to get a win against the Knights who have shown inconsistency throughout the season.

Head-to-head prediction: St George Dragons

Betting tip: Tyrell Sloan anytime try scorer.

Gold Coast Titans vs Melbourne Storm

Saturday, May 31, 3pm AEST – Cbus Super Stadium

The first of three Saturday night games start with a trip to the Gold Coast, where the Titans take on the Melbourne Storm.

Both teams have struggled in the last month, with Melbourne only winning two out of their last five games, and the Titans with only one in the same stretch.

Melbourne hopes to pick up their form after having some rest, as they look toward a top 4 spot on the ladder.

The Titans continue to be in wooden spoon territory, and they certainly don’t want to be given the unwanted sports utensil for the third time in franchise history if they continue their wretched run.

In terms of this matchup, Melbourne has only lost one clash out of their last five meetings against the Titans, and out of their last four wins against their Gold Coast opponents, have won by double digits on three of those occasions.

Head-to-head prediction: Melbourne Storm

Betting tip: Ryan Papenhuyzen anytime try scorer.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Wests Tigers

Saturday, May 31, 5:30pm AEST – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Saturday night shines more in Queensland, as we head north for the Cowboys vs Tigers clash.

The Tigers will go from one problem to another, where they wrap up the drama with Lachlan Galvin and hopefully get rid of their troubles in Townsville.

With the Tigers well rested with no Origin players, it gives them an opportunity to unite given the circumstances to what otherwise has been a stronger start to the season for the club.

North Queensland Cowboys have won four out of their last five against the Tigers, and have aced their last three games against this club when they don’t have to travel.

Keep an eye out for Jarome Luai, who was left out of Laurie Daley’s Origin side and who now has full reign in the halves.

Head-to-head prediction: North Queensland Cowboys

Betting tip: Over total match points.

Manly Sea Eagles vs Brisbane Broncos

Saturday, May 31, 7:35pm AEST – 4 Pines Park

Two sides who have more expectations on their shoulders than their win rate will want to be on top by the end of this matchup.

Manly struggled against a Parramatta side without Mitch Moses and Zac Lomax in Round 12.

The Brisbane Broncos have been a side with more question marks on their performances than The Riddler.

With three losses in a row, the Broncos have a chance to break the losing streak and take advantage of a Manly side that is held back with injured troops.

Despite Manly having won their last match against the Broncos in meetings outside of Suncorp Stadium, it’s hard to deny Brisbane’s strike against the Sea Eagles in recent history.

Head-to-head prediction: Brisbane Broncos

Betting tip: Under total match points.

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs New Zealand Warriors Prediction

Sunday, June 1, 2pm AEST – Accor Stadium

The first of three Sunday afternoon games starts in Homebush, where both sides want to continue their good form.

Both sides after the first 12 rounds sit very well in the top 8 standings, but can still lose comfort if they start to lose more games.

Wayne Bennett has the Rabbitohs firing better than ever, with their last two wins coming in unprecedented fashion.

With their roster starting to get healthier, the Rabbitohs are starting to return to full strength, which hasn’t been seen in recent times.

The Warriors will want to bounce back after losing to the Raiders at home in Round 12.

Despite the recent loss, the Warriors have been one of the most consistent sides this season.

Whether it remains to be the right call or not, we expect the Rabbitohs against a side that has shown struggles winning on the road.

Head-to-head prediction: South Sydney Rabbitohs

Betting tip: Keaon Koloamatangi anytime scorer

Penrith Panthers vs Parramatta Eels Prediction

Sunday, June 1, 4:05pm AEST – Commbank Stadium

Imagine a psychic at the start of this season predicting that by the first game of State of Origin in 2025, the Panthers would be sitting last in the standings and the Eels being two points away from the top 8.

There’s no way anyone would believe that right?

Well, that’s currently how things are in the NRL.

The Eels without Mitch Moses and Zac Lomax scored 30 points and defeated the Manly Sea Eagles with ease.

An understrength Penrith side lost to Newcastle in Bathurst and will be looking to get everyone back from Origin for the Battle for the West, given they are playing at Commbank Stadium, known for being the Eels’ home ground.

The Eels since Moses returned have won two out of three games so far, and have been three out of their last five games overall.

Despite the recent form the Eels have created, we expect the Panthers to get one on their rivals and change their losing situation.

Head-to-head prediction: Penrith Panthers

Betting tip: Panthers by 1 to 12

Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders Prediction

Sunday, June 1, 6:15pm AEST – Allianz Stadium

The last game of the round concludes in Sydney at Allianz Stadium between the Roosters and the Raiders.

Both teams come into this round with a huge win needed in what has been a competitive season.

The Roosters had a huge upset over a full-strength Cronulla side and considering who the club are missing due to State of Origin, they scored 42 points on Cronulla’s turf.

Canberra also had a huge win last round, beating the Warriors in a close game in New Zealand where they played in wet conditions.

James Tedesco continues to prove his dominance in the NRL, starring in a needed win on the weekend and is also someone who missed Origin selection for the Blues again.

Could another huge performance influence potential future selection before they have a bye in round 14?

The Raiders have shown in the past that they can overwhelm the Roosters in any circumstance, and considering their strong run this season has led to them being second in the standings as of now, we expect them to continue their winning form.

Head-to-head prediction: Canberra Raiders

Betting tip: James Tedesco anytime try scorer.
