Sydney Roosters vs Cronulla Sharks Prediction – Round 16 2026

19/06/2026|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

The Sydney Roosters will be relieved to see several Origin stars back on deck for their clash with the Cronulla Sharks at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

The Roosters fell out of the top four last week, going down 48-10 while fielding a depleted side against the Dolphins.

James Tedesco, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Robert Toia, Sam Walker, Reece Robson, Lindsay Collins and Victor Radley have all been named. However, the Tricolours are without Hugo Savala due to concussion protocols.

The Sharks made it four in a row with a gutsy 10-8 victory over the Warriors last week. Braydon Trindall has been leading the attack in the absence of Nicho Hynes and will be eager to continue his recent form against a strengthened Sydney side on Sunday.

Addin Fonua-Blake and Briton Nikora return to the side, while Hynes and Blayke Brailey are named in the reserves. The Roosters won 34-22 when these sides met early in the season, can Cronulla flip the script here?

Roosters vs Sharks Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

With the Roosters sitting third on the ladder and playing some of the most polished football in the competition, this is the game of the round.

They lost badly to the Dolphins, but when your team has seven players out because they’re playing State of Origin, surely that’s understandable, right?

Expect some of the Origin troops back following Game 2 to sharpen their team.

The Sharks pulled off two massive plays to end the game in New Zealand, one being Will Kennedy blocking the Warriors field goal attempt and the second being Braydon Trindall’s 45 metre field goal.

Their four-game winning streak has shown they have fight, even without their best player in Nicho Hynes.

Trent Robinson’s men should have the class and depth to win this one, but don’t underestimate the Sharks’ capabilities, as they have won each of their last four matches as an underdog in Sydney.

Betting tip: Sydney Roosters

First Try Scorer Prediction

After dropping a playmaking masterclass on Wednesday night to help the Maroons level the series, surely young Sam Walker will be riding a high heading into this one.

Confidence is key in this game and when you discover Walker has scored at least one try in each of Sydney's last three matches at Allianz Stadium, he becomes a very interesting value position for first try scorer in this one.

Betting tip: Sam Walker.

Over/Under Prediction

Each of the Roosters last five matches in Sydney have gone over the total match points line.

Betting tip: Over (49.5) total match points

Line Prediction

Cronulla has covered the line in each of their last four matches.

Betting tip: Sharks (+5.5) line.
