NRLW Tips & Predictions – Round 9

18/09/2024|SB Staff|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

The final round of the NRLW regular season is upon us! NRLW round 9 will be the last before the finals get underway, but with just one set of games left to play, the top four is far from being set.

Three different teams can still clinch the minor premiership, with the Roosters, Broncos and Sharks all sitting on 12 competition points heading into NRLW round 9.

Meanwhile, the last finals place is not set either. Only one of the Cowboys, Eels and yes, last year’s champions Newcastle, can finish fourth.

At the other end of the table, the wooden spoon is still up for grabs too, with the Tigers aiming to do what their male counterparts could not and offload the unwanted piece of cookware to someone else.

With so much at stake for so many, NRLW round 9 is not to be missed! For the latest news, analysis, odds, for all the final lot of NRLW regular season matches, check out our NRLW round 9 tips and predictions below.

Cronulla Sharks Women vs Wests Tigers Women Prediction

Thursday, September 19, 7:45pm AEST – Shark Park

It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, as they say. That sentiment is certainly true for the Cronulla Sharks, who after spending most of the season undefeated and top of the table, have crumbled at the 11th hour.

Their 40-0 mauling at the hands of the Knights was followed by a narrow 20-16 loss to Brisbane, bringing their once solid title credentials under major scrutiny.

Luckily for the Sharks they face the Tigers in their final regular season game. Wests started, continued and look set to finish terribly, with just the lone win to show for their efforts in 2024 thus far.

Despite Cronulla’s recent struggles, surely the spoon is calling for the ladies from Concord.

Head-to-head prediction: Cronulla Sharks Women.

Betting tip: Big win, little win – Sharks 13+

St George Illawarra Dragons Women vs Brisbane Broncos Women Prediction

Saturday, September 21, 1:30pm AEST – Queensland Country Bank

The Broncos have banked six consecutive wins after losing their opening two NRLW matches this season.

They are now odds on to win the minor premiership, as the lowly Dragons should help them recoup the points differential of 10, separating them and the first-placed Roosters.

Curious as to who may be the one to score those points? Well, Mele Hufanga doesn’t usually stay quiet for long and after failing to score last week, we’re tipping her to bounce back in some style against a rather leaky Dragons’ defence.

Head-to-head prediction: Brisbane Broncos Women.

Betting tip: Mele Hufanga to score 2 or more tries.

North Queensland Cowboys Women vs Newcastle Knights Women Prediction

Saturday, September 21, 3:15pm AEST – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

The North Queensland Cowboys are still alive in 2024, just. They need to win here and for other results to go their way, but they can still mathematically make the top four and qualify for the finals.

Unfortunately, Newcastle could be about to play grim reaper and call time on the Cowboys season.

With their spot in the top four technically not secure yet, the reigning champs will be keen to leave no doubt and sew up their spot in the finals with a dominant display here.

Head-to-head prediction: Newcastle Knights Women.

Betting tip: SGM – Yasmin Clydsdale and Sheridan Gallagher anytime try scorers.

Canberra Raiders Women vs Gold Coast Titans Women Prediction

Sunday, September 22, 1:30pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

A good old dead rubber takes place here in NRLW round 9. Unfortunately, both the Titans and Raiders race is run this season and there is only pride on the line here.

Both sides have shown glimpses of their potential this season, but not enough to be in the finals picture with a game to play.

Games like this usually go off the rails pretty quickly and we are sure both sides will be keen to throw the ball around as much as possible here. The neutrals will be the real winners here.

Head-to-head prediction: Canberra Raiders Women.

Betting tip: Cheyelle Robins-Reti first try scorer.

Parramatta Eels Women vs Sydney Roosters Women Prediction

Sunday, September 22, 3:15pm AEST – CommBank Stadium

The final game of NRLW round 9 and the entire regular season pits the Parramatta Eels and the Sydney Roosters against one another.

The Chooks have surged to the top of the ladder and premiership favouritism in recent weeks, shaking off their early season injury woes in some style.

The Eels have been equally impressive in their own right. The biggest improvers in the competition, they’ve gone from wooden spooner to the brink of the playoffs.

A lot of this development is thanks to players like boom youngster Rory Owen, who continues to put her name forward for Rookie of the Year.

Unfortunately, it looks unlikely that they’ll be able to beat the red-hot Roosters and make the finals one year removed from finishing dead last. However, they can still be very proud of their efforts in 2024.

Head-to-head prediction: Sydney Roosters Women.

Betting tip: Rory Owen anytime try scorer.

NRLW 2024 Premiership Odds
