NRLW 2024 Season Preview & Predictions

18/07/2024|SB Staff|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

The 2024 NRLW season gets underway on July 25, with 10 teams set to compete over nine thrilling rounds.

This year marks the seventh NRLW season, with the women’s game continuing to grow as more and more fans continue to tune in.

The success of the most recent Women’s State of Origin series, which saw record crowds turn out to see NSW and QLD do battle, has lit the fuse for what is sure to be an action-packed NRLW season.

With the hype building and teams putting the finishing touches on their pre-season preparation we’ve got out our crystal ball and are offering up some predictions for the new season.

Who will dominate the regular season? Who will triumph on grand final day and which team will find themselves wondering what could have been as they collect the dreaded wooden spoon?

Let’s find out! Check out our NRLW 2024 season predictions for the latest NRLW news, analysis and odds.

Also, don’t forget the NRLW kicks off just in time to catch the tail end of Try July, so keep an eye out in round one for all the wild and wonderful post-try celebrations set to be wheeled out, as the stars of the women’s game and Sportsbet raise money for charity.

NRLW 2024 Season Predictions

Grand Final Winners – Newcastle Knights

Many would have expected the Sydney Roosters name to appear here, but after a trio of key injuries on the eve of the season, their stocks have taken a serious hit.

NSW State of Origin five-eighth Corban Baxter will miss the entire NRLW campaign after rupturing her ACL in the Tri-colours final preseason trial. She’ll be joined on the sidelines by Brydie Parker and Shawden Burton, leading us to steer clear from the luckless Chooks.

Instead, we are tipping the Newcastle Knights to go back-to-back, led by the incomparable Tamika Upton, the undisputed best player in the NRLW.

After winning both the Dally M and the Karyn Murphy Medal (awarded to the best player in the NRLW grand final) as the Knights lifted the trophy, Upton also helped Queensland pull off a State of Origin miracle, just a few weeks ago.

In the form of her life and with plenty of talented teammates, like the Southwell sisters, Upton and Newcastle could be about to establish a dynasty similar to what the Penrith Panthers have done in the men’s competition.

Minor Premiers – Brisbane Broncos

Currently equal favourites with the aforementioned Knights for the NRLW minor premiership, the Broncos could be a good pick for those not wanting to put all their eggs in one blue and red basket.

Yes, the Knights did the double last season, but it will be a big ask to maintain that intensity for another full season.

Again, much like Penrith in the NRL, Newcastle need only to make the top four and ensure their stars are on deck to win the premiership.

Rest and rotation to ensure this, could risk giving up the minor premiership, with the Broncos and their superstar skipper Ali Brigginshaw surely waiting to accept it.

Wooden Spoon – Parramatta Eels

Unfortunately for Parramatta supporters, there looks to be zero respite when the NRLW season begins.

The current favourites for the NRLW wooden spoon, the women’s Parra side, look destined to emulate their male counterparts, who are currently equal last in the NRL.

If they do finish bottom of the heap in season 2024, it will be their second consecutive last placed finish, after winning just one game last season.

There’s little to suggest there will be much improvement out west this NRLW season, and the odds reflect as much.
