St George Illawarra Dragons vs Canterbury Bulldogs Prediction - Round 25 2026

20/08/2026|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

The Bulldogs arrive at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night with their season hanging by a thread.

A 22-6 defeat to the Rabbitohs last week was a chance to climb into the top eight, and instead it left them two points adrift of the eighth-placed Cowboys with the clock running down on the home-and-away season.

Waiting for them are a St George Illawarra side who have been building in the last few weeks. The Dragons ground out a 24-22 win over the Wests Tigers last Sunday for their second victory on the bounce and while they still remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder, Dean Young's men are no longer the free hit they were three months ago.

Both sides have been reshuffled. Canterbury have lost Jethro Rinakama for the remainder of the season, a blow that pushes Enari Tuala out to the wing and brings Bronson Xerri into the centres.

The Dragons have swapped Mathew Feagai and Daniel Atkinson, with Atkinson taking the No.1 jersey and Feagai shifting to the wing.

There is history here, too. These clubs opened the season against one another in Las Vegas, where a Stephen Crichton field goal delivered Canterbury a 15-14 win and a sixth consecutive result over the Red V.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Canterbury Bulldogs Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Dragons will be looking to make it three wins in a row this week; now there's a sentence we didn't think we'd be writing this season.

After hanging on for a two-point win over the terrible Tigers, the hat-trick is officially alive for St George.

Don't get too excited, Dragons fans. Beating the Tigers barely counts as a legitimate result these days and Canterbury's record against the Red V when the sun goes down is scary stuff.

The Bulldogs have won each of their last 11 night matches against the Dragons and we're backing them to make it 12 here despite last week's loss to the Rabbitohs.

Head-to-head prediction: Canterbury Bulldogs.

First Try Scorer Prediction

Jacob Kiraz is the sort of winger who makes his own luck; big body, genuine wheels and finishing ability to boot.

We're expecting the Dogs to make the contest physical early through their defence and turn that pressure into field position inside the opening 15 minutes.

When that happens, the ball tends to end up in Kiraz's hands out wide. We like him to go over in the corner and open the scoring.

Betting tip: Jacob Kiraz.

Over/Under Prediction

Neither of these sides has made easy work of scoring points in 2026, with both carrying a negative points differential into Round 25.

This one shapes as a contest decided by defence rather than attack and 43.5 looks a  long way off for two teams who have spent the season grinding.

Betting tip: Under (43.5) total match points.

Line Prediction

Canterbury have the personnel to put this away by more than a converted try if they get on top early and the Dragons' recent wins have both been narrow.

Betting tip: Canterbury Bulldogs (-8.5) line.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Bulldogs Anytime Try Scorer Betting Tips

Jacob Kiraz

Kiraz has averaged roughly a try every second game across the 2026 season and holds the No.2 jersey on Canterbury's most productive edge.

Enari Tuala

Rinakama's season-ending injury pushes Tuala from the centres out to the wing, where he'll finish the same right-edge shape rather than create it.

Tyrell Sloan

Sloan has unreal speed and is always a chance at scoring tries from distance or close range.

Jacob Preston

Preston starts in the second row alongside Lachlan Galvin's short-side ball-playing; an underrated line runner who is hard to stop close to the line.

Moses Suli

Suli returns to the centres for the Dragons and often can be seen bulldozing opponents close to the line and getting some meat.
