The Dolphins vs Newcastle Knights Prediction – Round 16 2025

19/06/2025|Joel Caine|NRL Expert Predictions & Tips

With each passing week, the possibility of the Newcastle Knights collecting the wooden spoon becomes more and more realistic.

Only points difference currently separates them from the foot of the ladder and to make matters worse they must now face a Dolphins side who clocked over half a century last week.

Interestingly, this game is set to be played in Perth, just like State of Origin Game 2, meaning it will be a lot easier for both side’s representative players to back up here.

With both teams set to be at full strength and scheduled to meet on mutual territory, picking this one could be harder than it seems.

Let’s have a look at the team lists for this clash, along with some betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer, and over/under markets. This is our Dolphins vs Knights prediction.

Dolphins vs Knights Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Phins are definitely up at the moment. Kristian Woolf’s side are riding high in sixth and are coming off a mammoth 58-4 win over Queensland rivals the Cowboys.

Their opponents this week, the Knights, remain uninspiring in 2025, with their drab, low-scoring loss to the Roosters last round really summing up their campaign to date.

With this game also taking place in Perth like State of Origin Game 2, there is a very real chance both Kalyn Ponga and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will go from teammates to opposing fullbacks in the space of three days here.

Betting tip: The Dolphins.

First Try Scorer Prediction

In each of the Dolphins' last four matches, their starting fullback has scored at least one try. The aftermath of Origin II permitting, that is set to be Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.

The Phins No.1 has become one of the game’s premier fullbacks and is always a try scoring threat whenever he takes the field.

Betting tip: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.

Over/Under Prediction

We’re mildly torn here. After the Dolphins scored 58 on their own last start, you’d think the over total match points would be a lock but never underestimate the Knights ability to suck the life out of a football match.

Newcastle seem to always drag the opposition into low scoring scraps, which they usually end up losing anyway. Maybe this is the week they decide to throw caution to the wind and opt for all out attack? But we doubt it.

Betting tip: Under total match points.
