After extricating themselves from the bottom of the ladder in Magic Round, the Penrith Panthers will travel to the Sunshine State once again to face the North Queensland Cowboys Saturday night.

These teams met about a month ago when the Cowboys shocked the four-time reigning premiers at CommBank Stadium. This time around the Cowboys will be without Origin star Reuben Cotter after he accepted a two-match ban for his high hit on Marata Niukore in their loss to the Warriors.

Sam McIntyre will start in his place while Thomas Mikaele is the new face on the bench. The Panthers are fresh off their best performance of the season, crushing the hometown Broncos 32-8, but are yet to string together consecutive wins.

They will welcome back Mitch Kenny from suspension, as well as Brad Schneider and Brian To’o from the infirmary with the latter having scored seven tries in his six appearances against the Cowboys.

Here are the full lineups for both of these sides, as well as some betting tips for the H2H, first try scorer and over/under markets. This is our Cowboys vs Penrith prediction.

Cowboys vs Panthers Teams

North Queensland Cowboys

1. Scott Drinkwater

2. Robert Derby

3.
Cowboys vs Panthers Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

It looks like there is a light at the end of the Panthers' tunnel!

Of course, it was their talisman Nathan Clearly, who put his team on his back for the umpteenth time and clicked them into gear for the first time this season.

After a big bounce-back win over the Broncos that lifted the four-time reigning premiers off the bottom of the ladder, they will continue their sojourn in the sunshine state as they head further north to battle the Cowboys.

The Cowboys, coming off a close loss to the Warriors, are one of several teams on the outside of the top eight looking in, but look like the classic middle-of-the-road team. They have the talent and star power yet keep lacking the killer instinct to get over the line.

The dominant forward pack of the Cowboys will be their trump card, dominating the ruck. If the Panthers somehow get it done then this game will probably be won via the Panthers capitalising on the Cowboys' errors, rather than the Panthers' star power that is slowly filtering back into first grade.

Can Cleary carry his side again though? He has the miles in the legs now, but he might need some friends to go with him this week.

Betting tip: North Queensland Cowboys.

First Try Scorer Prediction

It would be some way to mark his return from injury. Always a lover of making headlines on the field with his try scoring exploits, Brian To’o firms as an intriguing option for first try scorer here.

As mentioned earlier, the Penrith wingman has scored at least one try in each of his six previous appearances against North Queensland and with a record like that, we’ll be backing him in here.

Betting tip: Brian To’o.

Over/Under Prediction

While they finally found their map to the tryline last week against the Broncos, the points haven’t exactly been flowing for Penrith in 2025.

Five of their last six matches have gone under the total match points line and we’re tipping for that trend to continue here.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

Cowboys vs Panthers Match Details

Date: Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Kick-off: 7:35pm AEST.

Location: Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville.
