The Sydney Roosters have dismantled the North Queensland Cowboys 82-12 to send shockwaves through the NRL and send Rugby League scholars scrambling for the history books.

Surely that result has to be up there when it comes to the most points scored in an NRL game. That assumption would be right, but was the combined 94 points enough to take out top spot in Rugby League’s list of highest scoring games? Let’s find out!

6. Sydney Roosters 64-30 North Queensland Cowboys – 94 Points (2007)

Nearly two decades before their recent romping at the hands of the Roosters, the Chooks handed the Cowboys a thorough 34-point drubbing in 2007. 

The 94-point aggregate placed this game among the highest-scoring in the competition's history at the time, and it set a benchmark that would stand for years. 

The Roosters' attack was relentless throughout, running in try after try but the Cowboys saved some face scoring 30 of their own points to really blowout the scoreline. 

It was a statement performance from the Tricolours, though, as it turned out, the Roosters weren't done writing history against this particular opponent.

5. Eastern Suburbs 87-7 Canterbury-Bankstown - 94 Points (1935)

Nearly 90 years ago, Eastern Suburbs (now the Sydney Roosters) delivered one of the most lopsided results in the history of the game. 

An 80-point victory over Canterbury-Bankstown remains one of the most remarkable margins ever recorded in top-flight rugby league. 

Context matters here: the game was played in an era when scoring structures and defensive systems looked very different from today's game. 

Still, 87 points to 7 is extraordinary by any measure, and the 94-point aggregate earns this contest a place among the all-time greats, or the all-time brutals, depending on who you barrack for. 

4. Sydney Roosters 82-12 North Queensland Cowboys — 94 Points (2026)

History has a funny way of repeating itself as they say. When the Roosters dismantled the Cowboys 82–12 on Thursday night, the 94 combined points matched both the 2007 Roosters–Cowboys clash and the 1935 Eastern Suburbs record, but the manner of the victory was something else entirely.

Sam Walker was the standout, racking up 36 individual points via a hat-trick and eight conversions from eight attempts in one of the great solo missions. 

Mark Nawaqanitawase also crossed for three tries, while James Tedesco scored twice in the first half before departing at the break with an ankle injury. By that point, the contest was long over, the Roosters led 48–6 at halftime, equalling the record for most points scored in a single half of NRL football. But as we now know, they weren’t done there. 

3. Penrith Panthers 68-28 Northern Eagles — 96 Points (2002)

Before this game, 96 combined points in a single NRL match was unheard of. 

Penrith and the Northern Eagles put on a scoring spectacle at Brookvale Oval in 2002, with the Panthers running out dominant 40-point winners. The Northern Eagles (a short-lived merger between Manly and North Sydney that existed from 1999 to 2003) were on the wrong end of a Penrith side firing on all cylinders late in the regular season. 

The 96-point total nudges this game just ahead of the aforementioned trio of 94-point contests, cementing its place in the record books.

2. St. George 91-6 Canterbury-Bankstown — 97 Points (1935)

Just one week before Eastern Suburbs put 87 on Canterbury, St. George said “hold my beer” and went one better, well, three better, by thrashing the same opponent 91–6. 

The 97-point aggregate ranks second on the all-time list and remains one of the most remarkable results in over a century of rugby league. 

For Canterbury-Bankstown, that must have been a long week. Conceding 178 points across two games in the space of seven days is the kind of statistic that defies belief. 

For St. George, it was evidence of a dominant era that would define the club for decades to come.

1. Newcastle Knights 70-32 Canberra Raiders — 102 Points (2006)

The highest-scoring game in NRL/NSWRL premiership history remains the Newcastle Knights' extraordinary 70–32 firefight against the Canberra Raiders in March 2006. 

The 102 combined points set a record that has now stood for nearly two decades and seeing as no two teams have cracked triple figures in aggregate since, it may well stand for decades more.

What makes this game particularly remarkable is the context: it wasn't a dead rubber or a late-season mismatch, it was Round 2 of the 2006 season. 

The Raiders weren't short of attacking talent themselves, crossing for 32 points, but Newcastle's attack was simply unstoppable on the day. 

The Knights ran in try after try at Canberra Stadium, leaving fans, and the Raiders, stunned by the final whistle.

No game since has come close to matching the 102-point tally, and until someone does, this one will retain the title of most points scored in an NRL game ever.
