They say good things come in threes. That sentiment certainly rings true for this lot. No one enjoyed crossing for three (or more) tries in a single game than this list of League legends.

Legendary wingers, trailblazing forwards and strike centres are just some of the characters who currently populate the list of players who have the most NRL hat-tricks of all time.

But for now, check out our list of players who currently have the most NRL hat-tricks of all time.

Greg Inglis – 11 (2006 – 2015)

A modern day great, the man they call GI terrorized opposition defenses during his decade in the NRL.

He scored 149 career tries across his time at Melbourne and South Sydney, recording 11 hat-tricks in the process. These exploits see him crack the list of players with the most NRL hat-tricks of all time.

Steve Renouf – 11 (1988 – 1999)

The Pearl was one of the biggest strike weapons of the Brisbane Broncos dynasty during the 1990s and he’s got the receipts to prove it.

He crossed for 142 tries in 183 games for the Queensland club, which included 11 hat-tricks.

One of those three pieces also came in the 1997 Super League grand final, showing Renouf’s ability to deliver on the biggest stage.

As well as being among the players to have the most hat-tricks in NRL history, Renouf remains to this day the Broncos all-time leading try scorer.

Brett Morris – 12 (2009 – 2021)

It didn’t matter if he was playing for the Dragons, the Bulldogs, the Roosters, NSW, or Australia, wherever Brett Morris went, he did one thing – score tries.

Morris scored 178 tries and 12 hat-tricks in 281 appearances across three clubs.

These line-finding exploits place him among both the highest hat-trick and try scorers in NRL history.

Harold Horder – 13 (1914 – 1922)

Horder by name, hoarder by nature. Harold was hoarding hatties by the looks of it, 13 to be precise.

Unlucky for some, but not for the South Sydney great who is regarded as one of the greatest wingers to ever play the game.

He had a strike rate of more tries than games for the Bunnies and his tally of 152 career tries stood as the record for the most in NSWRL history from 1924-1969.

Eddie Lumsden – 14 (1957 – 1966)

When you’re parked on the wing for a side that wins 11 straight premierships, chances are you’re going to cross for a try or two.

Or for 136. That’s what legendary St George winger Eddie Lumsden did in his decade with the Dragons.

He won nine of St George’s 11 straight titles, bagging 14 hat-tricks in the process, retiring with one of the most enviable resumes in Rugby League history.

Ray Preston – 14 (1949 – 1956)

Another golden oldie, legendary winger Ray Preston dominated the try-scoring metrics in the 1950s.

He had a strike rate of nearly a try a game over his 133 appearances in the NSWRL across both Newtown and Parramatta.

Preston also remarkably crossed for 14 hat-trick in this time, proving just how prolific he truly was.

Reg Gasnier – 14 (1959 – 1964)

Six premierships, 127 tries, 14 hat-tricks, Team of the Century, ARL Hall of Fame, Member of the Order of Australia, Rugby League immortality.

These are just some achievements of St George deity Reginald William Gasnier.

Widely regarded as the Dragon’s greatest ever player, Gasiner actually ended his club career with more tries than games.

Therefore, it comes as little surprise that he crossed for as many hat-tricks as he did, or that he has been immortalized in bronze outside of the SCG.

Alex Johnston – 16* (2014 – 2023)

The only active player on this list, Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston frequently displays his penchant for scoring both tries and hat-tricks in the NRL.

Adequately applied with ammunition by the Bunnies lethal left edge, the man they call AJ has scored three or more tries in a single game on 16 occasions and counting* throughout his career so far.

These exploits have seen him slide into equal first here and outright second on the Top 10 Highest NRL Try Scorers of All Time.

Still under 30 years of age and with his current strike rate you’d have to think Johnston will end his career at the top of both lists.

Ken Irvine – 16 (1959 – 1973)

It’s no surprise that the greatest try scorer in Rugby League history also has the equal most hat-tricks of all time.

The late, great Ken Irvine crossed for three or more meat pies in a single match 16 times during his prolific career.

His insane ROI of 212 tries in 236 games is still unbeaten as is his record of 16 hat-tricks, it is shared however, with..

Frank Burge – 16 (1915 – 1927)

Frank Burge is widely recognized as one of the greatest forwards in Rugby League history. Yes, you read that right, forward.

Burge scored a record 16 hat-tricks playing in the forwards. A true trailblazer during Rugby League’s infancy, Burge started playing first-grade footy at age 16.

He possessed a unique blend of speed and power that made him a support player without equal.

After setting and still holding to this day (nearly 100 years later!) the record for the most hat-tricks in NRL/NSWRL history, Burge went on to become one of the game’s most revered coaches.
