NRL Match Review and Judiciary News – Round 16 Recap:

- Cowboys’ enforcer Jason Taumalolo cited for a Grade 1 dangerous throw, copping a $750 early plea fine.

- Warriors' Erin Clark and Raiders lock Morgan Smithies also charged with Grade 1 dangerous contact.

- No suspensions handed down from Sunday's Round 16 fixtures, with all three offences attracting fines only.

- All players must choose between an early guilty plea or challenging the charge at the NRL Judiciary panel.

Taumalolo Cops Fine for Dangerous Throw

Cowboys’ workhorse Jason Taumalolo has been slapped with a Grade 1 dangerous throw charge stemming from a 52nd-minute incident in North Queensland's Round 16 clash.

With loading applied due to his prior record, the Tongan international is staring down a $750 fine with an early guilty plea, or $1,000 if he opts to fight the charge at the NRL Judiciary panel and loses.

Crucially for the Cowboys, Taumalolo avoids any time on the sidelines, leaving coach Todd Payten's forward pack intact heading into Round 17. It also means Taumalolo will be free to make his 300th NRL appearance this weekend.

Warriors and Raiders Stars Also in Hot Water

Taumalolo isn't the only big name in the Match Review Committee's crosshairs this week.

Warriors prop Erin Clark and Canberra Raiders lock Morgan Smithies have each been cited for Grade 1 dangerous contact offences, both pleading their cases with fines on the table rather than suspensions.

Erin Clark (Warriors): Pinged for a 59th-minute incident involving Cowboys back-rower Heilum Luki. Early plea: $1,000 | Panel: $1,500.

Morgan Smithies (Raiders): Cited for a 45th-minute hit on Storm hooker Harry Grant. Early plea: $1,000 | Panel: $1,500.

Both forwards remain available for selection in their next NRL fixtures, a welcome reprieve for clubs deep in the thick of the Telstra Premiership race.

Round 16 Judiciary Wrap

Here's the full Sunday charge sheet from the Match Review Committee:

| Jason Taumalolo | Cowboys | Dangerous Throw | Grade 1 | $750 | $1,000 |

| Erin Clark | Warriors | Dangerous Contact | Grade 1 | $1,000 | $1,500 |

| Morgan Smithies | Raiders | Dangerous Contact | Grade 1 | $1,000 | $1,500 |

All three incidents occurred in the second half of their respective matches, and notably, none of the charges have triggered suspensions – a rare clean bill of health for player availability heading into the next round.

What Happens Next

Each charged player now faces a familiar fork in the road:

Accept the early guilty plea and pocket the reduced financial penalty.

Roll the dice at the NRL Judiciary panel and risk the heavier fin

Any judiciary hearings will need to be wrapped up before Round 17 kicks off. With finals footy looming on the horizon and the premiership ladder tightening week by week, expect most camps to take the early plea and move on.
