NRL Injury News Summary – Round 16:
- Penrith young gun Casey McLean has been ruled out of State of Origin Game Two after straining his quad at Blues training in Gosford.
- Mitch Moses has declared himself fit to take his place at the MCG after recovering from the hamstring complaint that sidelined him in Game One.
- Brisbane's horror run continued at Accor Stadium with skipper Adam Reynolds (hamstring) and playmaker Ezra Mam (AC joint) both leaving the field injured.
- Wests Tigers forward Kai Pearce-Paul faces scans on a suspected pec injury, joining a growing list of NRL stars on the sidelines.
Blues Reshuffle as McLean Joins Crichton on the Sidelines
The Blues' Origin II preparation has hit another speed bump, with Casey McLean strained his quad at training on Saturday and ruled out of the MCG clash.
The Panthers flyer had only just shaken off an ankle issue to be promoted into the starting side following Bulldogs captain Stephen Crichton's shoulder injury, which was confirmed on Tuesday.
There was better news around Mitch Moses, with hooker Reece Robson confirming the Eels playmaker is "tracking along well" and confident of taking the field after missing Game One with a hamstring complaint.
Broncos Misery Mounts at Accor Stadium
Michael Maguire's premiership defence is unravelling, with the reigning champions slumping to a sixth straight loss and adding two more first-choice playmakers to a lengthy casualty list.
Skipper Adam Reynolds finished the match with ice on his hamstring, though he attributed the issue to cramp and expects to be available after the Round 16 bye.
Ezra Mam was less fortunate, suffering an AC joint injury in a try-saving tackle on Ed Kosi.
"Ezra did his AC joint and it just got too hard for him to be out there," Maguire said post-match.
The halves drama compounds an already brutal stretch for Brisbane, with lock Patrick Carrigan facing at least six weeks out after syndesmosis surgery and centre Gehamat Shibasaki potentially sidelined for the same period with a knee complaint.
Pec Problems Plague the Competition
Pectoral injuries have emerged as the unwanted theme of Round 15. Wests Tigers forward Kai Pearce-Paul left Sunday's clash early in the first half with a suspected left pec injury.
"Devastating, we don't know exactly what the injury is. I think it's a pec injury, just the severity of it, I'm unsure," Tigers coach Benji Marshall said.
Pearce-Paul joins team-mate Royce Hunt, who has already undergone surgery and could miss the rest of the season, and Dragons back-rower Jaydn Su'A, who faces around 12 weeks on the sidelines after going under the knife.
HIAs, Head Knocks and a Boost for Manly
The Roosters were rocked by a double HIA failure at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, with debutant Reece Foley and centre Hugo Savala both ruled out after head knocks attempting to halt Dolphins winger Jamayne Isaako.
Sharks prop Jesse Colquhoun also failed a HIA in his side's gritty win over the Warriors.
There is light at the end of the tunnel for Manly fans, with Tom Trbojevic closing in on a Round 16 return from the hamstring injury that has kept him out since Round 7.
Rabbitohs centre Campbell Graham, however, is staring at another 3-4 weeks out after aggravating a calf complaint against the Sea Eagles.
